I had a fantastic tour with Toni! She was enthusiastic and insightful and went out of her way to make it a personal experience for our group. She even gave everyone their own postcard so we could send mail from the first post office! I learned a lot about the creation of America.

Was running late as our train into Philly was delayed about 10 minutes. We met Glenn and were lucky enough to have a private tour as nobody else showed up. We started at the Betsy Ross house where we stayed outside for about 15 minutes. We went to elfreth's alley where we spent close to 30 minutes learning about the Trinity style architecture and lots more. We walked to the courtyard of the Ben Franklin museum. He also gave us the lowdown on where to go for the best cheesesteaks. It's pay what you wish and overall gives a great introduction to the city.

I did the 10:30 AM Independence Mall Tour Philly Tour with them on a Monday in late June 2022. I walked to the Betsy Ross House, the meeting place, from the place I was staying. If you need to use the restroom before the Tour, use the one in the Betsy Ross House because the one in the Starbucks across the street didn't have any toilet paper. We had a very big group but Toni kept us all together. She is such a gem - a much better storyteller than the Tour guide from the Independence Hall. This tour with Toni made up for the anticlimactic one from the Independence Hall. She was very thoughtful and made sure we always stopped in the shade since it was a very hot day. Her stories were entertaining and engaging. I loved all the historical snippets she'd give us about the timeperiod of the founding fathers. We got so lucky because Benjamin Franklin's printing press was finally opened after a 10-year closure. Such a great addition to The Tour. You donate whatever you want at the end and I would highly recommend it if you're in Philly.

After a red eye flight from SoCal we dropped off our luggage and grabbed some La Colombe before heading to our Independence Mall tour! Richard was a great guide- it was clear he is passionate about the history of his city and loves sharing about it with others. He knows his stuff and really made the history come alive. This is exactly why I like walking tours- when done right (as this was!) it's so much more engaging than doing a self-guided tour reading facts off your phone and trying to get yourself from a to b. He welcomed any and all questions and was just a delight! We really loved the tour and I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Philly- especially to get yourself better acquainted with the city and its history before you continue exploring!

Toni's tour was a terrific overview of notable Philadelphia sites in the area. It was also chock full of interesting tidbits of information and helpful tips on other sights to see. She even cleverly engaged a resident expert at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul to share his special knowledge of that truly spectacular space).

We are big fans of Free Tours by Foot, having done them in New York and Boston, as well as our recent tour in Philadelphia. The tours are always led by interesting, knowledgeable people who are passionate about their city. It is a great activity for tourists (we live in Philly, so this was a way to get to know our new city). I highly recommend!

Free Tours By Foot has done it again! I've been on several tours across North America and am always impressed by the level of detail that the storytelling of the guides provide. This time around, Joseph was personable, and great at answering the questions that we had of him. I'm from the Boston area, so he was able to speak to what was happening where I'm from at the same time as what was going on in Philly. The tour was the Independence Mall Tour, based on a recommendation from a friend. It covers all the must-sees from early Philadelphia history.

Missy Elliott tour featuring Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Timbaland coming to Philadelphia in August

Ready to get your freak on? Global superstar Missy Elliott is bringing her first-ever headlining tour, "Out Of This World—The Missy Elliot Experience," to Philadelphia this summer.

The tour will feature Multi-Platinum selling superstar Ciara , hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes and mega-producer Timbaland .

The 24-city run blasts off on July 4 in Vancouver and will make a pit stop at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, Aug. 5.

“This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts.’ Being the FIRST female Hip Hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now going out on my FIRST headline tour,” Elliott said in a news release. “Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family! So get ready to be taken OUT OF THIS WORLD with me, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland! We can’t wait to share this experience with the fans!”

Solar eclipse 2024: Follow the path of totality

A total solar eclipse is crossing from the Pacific coast of Mexico through the United States on Monday.

According to NASA , totality will start around 11:07 a.m. PDT/1:07 EDT in Mexico and leave Maine at around 1:30 pm PDT/3:30 pm EDT. Precisely when you'll be able to see the eclipse — and what kind of eclipse you'll be able to see — will depend on your location and time zone. More on that here .

This will be the last chance to catch a total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. for about 20 years, so here's what you need to know to safely enjoy!

Livestreams from along the path of totality

View from Vermont

Vermont Public will livestream views of the eclipse from the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Tune in starting at 3 p.m. ET.

View from New Hampshire

NHPBS will livestream the solar eclipse from Lancaster, N.H. starting at 12 p.m. ET.

View from Maine

Maine Public will livestream from Mars Hill, Maine, starting at 2:30 p.m.

How is the Weather in Istanbul During June?

June brings warm afternoons and early evenings with comfortable nights and mornings, increasing sunshine, but also increasing humidity.

Daytime high temperatures will tend to be near 23-24 C (73-75 F) early in June, warming to 27-28 C (81-82 F) by the end of the month.

A few of the warmer afternoons, especially later in the month, can reach up near 31C (88 F). The record high temperature in recent years in Istanbul during June is 37 C (98.6 F).

Late night and early morning low temperatures will average 14-16 C (57-61 F) early in June, warming to around 18-20 C (64-68 F) by the end of the month.

A few of the cooler mornings, especially early in the month, can dip down to around13 C (55 F). The record low temperature in Istanbul during June is 8 C (46.4 F).

You can expect about 24-25 sunny, or at least partly sunny days this month with 5-6 days being mostly cloudy.

The risk for a cloudy day is highest at the beginning of this month. About 4-5 days record some rainfall, but mostly early in the month.

The number of daylight hours in June ranges from about 14.9 hours on the 1st to a maximum of 15.1 hours on the 21st.

Wind speeds during this month will be mostly gentle at 12-19 kph (8-12 mph) but occasionally will be moderate at 20-28 kph (13-18 mph). 

Ocean Temperatures

The beaches near Istanbul lie mostly along the shores of the Sea of Marmara and along the Bosphorus Strait.

The sea temperatures during June warm from about 18 C (64 F) early in the month to about 22 C (72 F) by the end of the month.

What to Wear in Istanbul during June?

Early summer is warm in Istanbul so best to bring cool light-weight cotton clothing, a hat and sunblock.

A light sweater or light windbreaker will come in handy for the cooler evenings and early mornings. 

For women, a head covering is required (for entering mosques). Don’t forget to pack some comfortable walking shoes as well.

Things to Do in Istanbul in June

This is the first month of summer, and that makes it the perfect time to take a free Istanbul walking tour . Alternatively, a simple walk through one of the many beautiful parks in this city is also an excellent idea!

You might also want to consider a Bosphorus cruise , as the wind out on the water is sure to cool you down on hot summer days.

If you're visiting with family, consider taking the kids to Vialand for a fun theme park experience including roller coasters, water attractions, and an on-site aquarium!
