The World’s Greatest Players Return to the Miami Open presented by Itaú

Iconic tennis tournament returns bigger and better than ever before!

The best in sports, food, art, and music will be on display at Hard Rock Stadium.

Naomi Osaka, Andy Murray, and Nick Kyrgios granted wildcards.

Miami Gardens, FL (February 22, 2022) – The 2022 Miami Open presented by Itaú will once again host the world’s greatest players at Hard Rock Stadium, March 21 – April 3. The iconic tennis and entertainment festival returns with the energy and excitement that has long made it the place to be in March.

The Miami Open received the initial entry lists from the ATP and WTA tours, and the current entries have Grand Slam-level talent including 18 players with a combined 71 career Grand Slam singles titles. Overall, 73 of the top 75 ranked men and 73 of the top 75 ranked women, are entered to compete in Miami.

Defending men’s champion Hubert Hurkacz returns and will have to navigate a stellar list of initial entries to retain his title including reigning US Open champion and current World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, Olympic Gold Medalist Alexander Zverev, World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas and World No. 5 Rafael Nadal.

Overall, the entry list received boasts several former Grand Slam champions including Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, and wildcard entry Andy Murray.

Other players to watch include nine-time ATP singles champion Andrey Rublev, currently No. 7 in the world, who has already claimed an ATP singles title this year in Marseille and World No. 8 Casper Ruud who won his seventh career ATP title this year in Buenos Aires.

Some of the young players looking to make their mark in 2022 include World No. 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime who won his first career singles title earlier this month in Rotterdam and 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz who became the youngest player to win an ATP 500 level event last week in Rio. Last year’s Miami Open finalist and current World No. 10 Jannik Sinner will be looking to go one step further and claim his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami.

In addition to the entry list, the Miami Open has announced it has granted main draw wildcards to three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray and Australian superstar Nick Kyrgios.

The impressive women’s entry list is led by reigning Australian Open and two-time defending Miami Open champion Ashleigh Barty. If the World No. 1 is to win her third consecutive Miami title, she will have to work her way though a field featuring 12 Grand Slam champions including reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu and current French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova.

The list of former Grand Slam champions that will compete this year is extensive including Iga Swiatek, Garbine Muguruza, Jelena Ostapenko, Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens and Miami Open wildcard entry Naomi Osaka.

The tournament will also host World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, Olympic Gold Medalist Belinda Bencic, World No. 4 Paula Badosa, 2019 Miami Open finalist Karolina Pliskova, World No. 6 Maria Sakkari, and World No. 7 Anett Kontaveit who won earlier this month in St. Petersburg.

Many superstars of the future will be on display with the likes of US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, 17-year-old Coco Gauff and 20-year-old Amanda Anisimova scheduled to compete.

The Miami Open presented by Itaú has granted a main draw wildcard to four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

In 2022, fans can expect a greater guest experience that includes the best in art, food, fashion and music. Some new and exciting changes to the site include a new Butch Buchholz Family Stadium with seating for more than 3500, new multi-level structures hosting amazing culinary options, live entertainment, retail stores and more. Guests will have the opportunity to ride the gondola, giving them a unique bird’s eye view perspective of the site. There will also be new green spaces and sponsor activations for everyone to enjoy.

Qualifying rounds will be March 21-22 and will determine 12 additional slots in each singles’ draw. The Miami Open also will award wildcards to five men and eight women. The women’s main draw begins on Tuesday, March 22, followed by the first round of the men’s main draw on Wednesday, March 23.

The Final Festival event requires tickets for entry. To attend, patrons need a Finals Festival ticket, which includes both upgraded Ground Pass and Arena tickets.  If you have purchased a floor ticket to the Finals Festival, make sure to get a wristband for access to John Cain Arena. Wristbands can be picked up outside John Cain Arena. Please remember, if you're attending multiple days, you'll need a different wristband for each day.  Keep in mind that tickets are subject to the AO24 Ticket Conditions of Sale and Entry. Artists may change due to unforeseen factors. If suitable replacements aren't found, you will be entitled to a refund.

Tennis is Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The two met in the philosophy department at the University of Colorado in 2008 after dropping out of their respective music programs. In the years after graduating, they got involved in Denver’s DIY music scene. Through house shows, they were connected with Underwater Peoples, and Firetalk.

Tennis’ first singles “South Carolina,” “Baltimore,” and “Marathon” were released in 2010. The band went blog-viral nearly overnight, landing them a record deal with Fat Possum.

Cape Dory, (2011 on Fat Possum), documents Moore and Riley’s time spent living aboard a small sailboat on the Atlantic coast. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker chart, transitioning Tennis from house-shows to stages such as Lollapalooza.

Tennis recorded their sophomore effort Young & Old (2012) with Patrick Carney of the Black Keys. They made their television debut on The Tonight Show, The Late Show, and Conan.

In 2014 they signed with Communion. The resulting release, Ritual in Repeat was the culmination of separate recording sessions with Richard Swift, Jim Eno and Patrick

Carney. Moore and Riley were greatly influenced by Richard Swift’s approach to recording and engineering, prompting Riley’s decision to take over as engineer on their future releases.

With shifting labels and new interests, Tennis chose an alternate path for their band and career. In 2016, Moore and Riley formed the label Mutually Detrimental and began self-releasing. Their newfound freedom allowed them to return to their sailboat to write their next full-length, this time in the Sea of Cortez. Yours Conditionally, released in 2017, became their most commercially successful album–charting at #4 on Billboard’s Independent list and in the top 100 highest selling vinyl releases that year. They played Coachella and opened for artists like The National, Father John Misty and The

Shins–proving their DIY roots as a cornerstone to their sound and narrative.

Their follow up Swimmer (2020), was recorded in their home studio with Moore and

Riley producing and engineering. The pair brought their long-time touring member Steve Voss in for the second time to drum on record. The singles, Need Your Love and

Runner, were Tennis’ most successful releases to date. With nearly every show on tour sold-out (including two consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel) the album’s campaign was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sam Evian knew he wanted to leave New York City almost as soon as he arrived, more than a decade ago. An upstart songwriter and producer, he, of course, loved its creative wellspring—the ideas, the instrumentalists, the energy. But he’d grown up in the woods of upstate New York and, later, along the coast on the rather empty eastern end of North Carolina. The city was expensive, anxious, and unsettling, however inspiring it could be.

So in the Summer of 2017, he and his band decamped to a rented house upstate to cut his second album, the magnetic You, Forever. He then realized he could no longer resist the urge; two years ago, Sam and his partner, Hannah Cohen, split from the city, building their refuge in the quiet of a Catskills town. That reflective, relaxing environment inexorably shaped Time to Melt, his third LP and debut for Fat Possum. A glowing set of soulfully psychedelic pop gems, Time to Melt is a testimonial to the life and wisdom to be found when you give yourself the mercy of space.

During the last decade, Sam has become a preeminent collaborator, producing and engineering records for the likes of Big Thief, Cass McCombs, and Widowspeak as Sam Owens, his given name. In their new home, he and Hannah hosted bands like house guests as he helmed their sessions. The coronavirus, though, clamped down on those interactions, largely sealing the couple from their longtime scene.

So Sam tried something new: He sorted through more than 60 instrumental demos he’d recorded in the last two years and began shaping the most enticing of them into songs with help from Hannah and a cadre of long-distance friends—Spencer Tweedy, Chris Bear, Jon Natchez, even strangers who sent him voice memos via Instagram. He took the unexpected time at home to dig deeper into his world of sounds and ideas than ever before, calmly considering our moment of prevailing chaos through a lens of newfound distance.

But the last few years have been purely happy for mostly no one, Sam included. Time to Melt reckons with the weight of our time, even when it sounds largely weightless. Inspired by John Coltrane’s mixture of grace and gravitas and Marvin Gaye’s uncanny ability to turn social issues into personal anthems, Sam strove to give these otherwise-beguiling instrumentals the thoughtfulness and depth these days demand.

With its rubbery bassline and sweeping strings, “Freezee Pops” unfurls like a Summer breeze. It reads, though, like poetic testimony on police brutality, an innocent kid’s life plundered for prison-system profits. And “Knock Knock” taps Sam’s memories of race-and-class violence in the small-town South and his subsequent reckoning with our crumbling American façade, where “we tell ourselves almost anything but the truth.” The song is ultimately a tribute to the perseverance of the vulnerable, who find community and joy in spite of the way centuries of miscreants try to deny it.

There are also songs of utter celebration on Time to Melt, paeans to whatever joy it is we find in life or love. Buttressed by bold baritone sax, lifted by exuberant trumpet, and washed in fluorescent guitars, “Easy to Love” is an exultant ode to finding a new paradise outside of the city, an idyllic setting where you can plant love and literally watch it bloom. “Lonely Days” blows in with a muted brooding, but it’s a feint for Sam’s sweet hymn to a blissful partnership of shared solitude, a true blessing for a year when so many have been alone. “Lonely days are gone,” he repeats, his rhythm shifting just enough in the middle of the sentence to tease dejection and surprise with delight. Sam is so content in the Catskills that the lovely but warped “Sunshine” finds him imagining how heartache must feel, as though it were only ever a hypothetical muse. He sublimates a sense of seasick sadness into a compulsively funky oddity.

At home now near the Ashokan Reservoir with their new rescue dog, Jan, Sam and Hannah mostly listen to music while they cook dinner. That’s the kind of record Sam wanted to make—an album of sounds so pleasant and compelling that you put it on and follow the slipstream. He succeeded; Time to Melt is a waking dream, its intoxicating rhythms and timbral webs as settling, even seductive as an evening glass of wine. But making dinner, or whatever your ritual at day’s end may be, isn’t some idle exercise. It’s a place to unpack the pain and wonder, the suffering and promise of the moment, to reflect on where you have been and what might come next. In 40 striking minutes, or the time it may take you to make that meal, Time to Melt sorts through a year of a life spent in rage and hope, lockdown and love.

Till Lindemann is leaving Rammstein behind in 2024.

Starting in September, the bombastic frontman will embark on his first solo U.S. tour with special guests Twin Temple and Aesthetic Perfection in support of his 2023 solo album “Zunge.”

Midway through the fall run, the 61-year-old drops into New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

While this will be Lindemann’s first solo stateside jaunt, it won’t be the first time he’s performed without Rammstein.

Most recently, he wrapped an international 2023-24 solo tour in Mexico, according to Set List FM . On that run, he regularly performed 19 songs — including two encores — per show.

While we can’t guarantee what he’ll bring to the stage on his forthcoming North American tour, we do know the best way to find out is live.

On Nov. 3, 2023, Lindemann dropped his solo album “Zunge.”

Comprised of 11 tracks, the heavy rocker stretches his musical muscles and alternates between intimate quiet and chaotic, epic loud — the sound Rammstein is known for — with ease.

Highlights include the quirky “Sports Frei,” thumping “Altes Fleisch” and the warbly anthem “Du hast kein Herz.”

Personally, we were most taken with the Ennio Morricone-esque “Tanzlehrerin” with its guitar licks, yearning vocals and gifted yet pained backing singer giving her all behind Lindemann.

Don’t sleep on the shockingly fun album closer “Selbst verliebt,” either. It’s an unexpected pop delicacy.

On Christmas 2023, Lindemann followed up the album release with the whirly, tongue-trilling single “Entre dos tierras” en español.

Lindemann was accused of sexual assault by a female fan last June over social media. She alleged he drugged her at a pre-show Rammstein VIP party in Lithuania and later approached her fox sex during intermission.

This led to a backlash against Rammstein’s “VIP Experience;” fans believed Lindemann was using the ticket tier to bed fans.

After looking into the case, German prosecutors dropped the case due to a lack of evidence and testimony.

“The rapid termination of investigative proceedings by the Berlin state prosecutor’s office shows that there is insufficient evidence that our client allegedly committed sexual offen(s)es,” Lindemann’s lawyers said.

Rammstein drummer claimed Lindemann “has distanced himself from us in recent years and created his own bubble” and “things seem to have happened that, although legally ok, I personally don’t think are ok.”
