HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD North American Tour Will Launch in Chicago in September 2024

The magic is hitting the road next year! The North American Tour of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will launch at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago in September 2024. Previews will begin on Tuesday, Sept 10, 2024 ahead of an official opening on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The final performance of the 21-week engagement will be Saturday, February 1, 2025.  

This will be the world premiere of the first ever touring production based on the acclaimed Broadway production, currently playing at the Lyric Theatre, New York.

“Chicago is ready to welcome an extended engagement of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” Mayor  BranDon Johnson  said. “We are thrilled that Chicagoans will experience this magical production as the first stop of the North American Tour. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will launch a North American tour in September 2024. Dates, venues and casting will be announced. This will mark the first touring production of the Tony Award-winning play.

The play is the eighth story in the Harry Potter canon — the only one to be written specifically for the stage. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, the script is written by Thorne.

‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ to Launch 2024 North American Tour 

The highly-acclaimed Tony Award-winning production “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” will bring the magical world of Hogwarts to theaters across the U.S. and Canada for a tour next fall.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which currently runs on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre, is set to launch its national tour at Chicago’s James M. Nederlander Theatre with an opening night scheduled for September 26, 2024. The show will run for a 21-week engagement through February 1, 2025. Casting, as well as additional tour dates across North America, will be announced at a later date.

Producers Sonia Freidman and Colin Callender noted that “developing a first-class touring production” of the show has “long been an ambition of ours.”

“We are delighted that our wonderful and deeply gifted creative team have found a way to make it possible to bring the magic, spectacle, and thrills of our astonishing show to audiences across North America, and we can’t wait for audiences to see it,” the pair said in a statement.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” based on the story by J.K. Rowling, takes place 19 years after the end of the last book in the Harry Potter series: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Harry’s son, Albus, befriends Scorpius Malfoy, the son of his father’s rival, Draco. Both boys enter a journey where they’re met with the power to change the past — and future — forever.

Since its debut on Broadway in 2018, the show has received high praise; Forbes described the production as “one of the most defining pop culture events of the decade.” Currently, the show runs eight times a week on Broadway and this year, it broke its own record for the highest weekly gross by a non-musical play in Broadway history, bringing in over $2.6 million in one week.

Broadway at The National has announced its 2024/2025 season, featuring the highly anticipated DC premiere of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD among a nine-show lineup of award-winning Broadway hits. The season will kick off in the fall of 2024 at The National Theatre in the heart of the nation’s capital.

The six-show subscription package will include the DC premieres of A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL , SHUCKED , KIMBERLY AKIMBO , winner of the most Tony Awards of the year, including Best Musical, Broadway favorites MEAN GIRLS and AIN’T TOO PROUD – THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE TEMPTATIONS , and the first ever North American tour of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD . “Harry Potter” Exhibit Roundup: Studio Tour in 2024, Forbidden Forest in Melbourne, and Auckland Refuses Fantastic Beasts

We’re coming to the end of an incredible year for wizarding world experiences, from Harry Potter: The Exhibition opening in several cities worldwide to the announcement of the all-new, immersive Harry Potter: Visions of Magic . Don’t be too sad, though – there’s plenty already announced for next year!

Studio Tour London Events for 2024

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London has already announced the outline of its schedule for 2024, with three major events all returning from previous years. To kick off the year, Magical Mischief will run from January 20 to April 16. This is the third year the event, which celebrates the trickery needed to pull off the magical shenanigans of the films, has been featured on the calendar. Fans can try their hand at making a Howler, explore the commotion of a pranked Great Hall, and check out a wide variety of Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes products.

Next up on the schedule is the Studio’s Halloween event, Dark Arts . Death Eaters will be parading through the tour between September 13 and November 10, 2024. The Great Hall will be decked out with pumpkins and other spooky decorations, and the Dark Mark will be projected throughout the experience. Visitors can also take part in wand combat lessons taught by Paul Harris, wand choreographer for four of the Harry Potter films.

Hogwarts in the Snow will also return. The Christmas-themed event is currently running until January 14, 2024, and appears on next year’s calendar from November 16, 2024, to January 19, 2025. There are no details about what next year’s event entails, but given this year’s incredible decorations and snow-covered shop fronts, we’re sure the festivity will be dialed up to the maximum.

Melbourne’s Forbidden Forest Experience

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience has been traversing the US this year, but 2024 will see the interactive woodland trail go global again. It was announced last month that the experience will head to Singapore in February, and now we know its next stop will be in Melbourne, Australia. Fans will be able to explore the depths of the Forbidden Forest beginning April 6 at the Briars in Mount Martha, casting spells and coming face to face with magical creatures, drinks, and food from across the wizarding world. Tickets go on general sale on Wednesday, December 20, but there is a waitlist you can join to access an earlier release.

Auckland Museum Cancels Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature

While Melbourne will gain a wizarding world experience next year, it has also recently lost one, with Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature closing in the city in October. This traveling museum exhibit explores conservationism through the lens of the wizarding world. And according to a report from the Spinoff , the exhibit was meant to make its way to the Auckland Museum in New Zealand in March 2024, but the museum quietly turned down the opportunity to host after an anti-trans activist toured the country and caused protests. The museum reportedly feared that comments made by J.K. Rowling on transgender rights could cause a similar reaction if the exhibit were to open. The decision leaves the future of the exhibit uncertain, as there now isn’t any upcoming location booked.

Harry Potter: The Exhibition Updates

There are several updates about Harry Potter: The Exhibition . The innovative experience is now open in Barcelona and Macao . In Barcelona, the exhibition opened on November 17 at Port Vell, and Spanish fans will be able to visit and enjoy the experience until April 7, 2024. Chinese fans in Macao, meanwhile, will have a shorter window to experience the magic. The exhibit opened on December 15 at the Londoner and will run only until February 29, 2024. After Macao, we have a whole new location to announce. The exhibition will head to the Kleine Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany, on May 10, 2024, and will run until September 5.

Harry Potter: Visions of Magic Debuts in Germany

The brand-new art experience Harry Potter: Visions of Magic is making its first tour stop in Cologne, Germany. It opened on December 8 at the Odysseum. Admission prices are €26.90 for adults and €20.90 for children, and it’s estimated to take 60 to 90 minutes to tour the 3,000-square-meter exhibit.

We will take an early morning flight to Edinburgh and hit the ground running on arrival! Today we will visit some of the most iconic Harry Potter sites Edinburgh has to offer:

• George Heriot’s School – This building structure looks like it is coming straight out of a fairy tale. Most people will agree that this school is the inspiration for Hogwarts as it is right around the corner from The Elephant House Cafe.
• Greyfriars Kirkyard- In this graveyard, there is a tombstone for a gentleman named “Thomas Riddell” who is the namesake of Rowling’s Voldemort.
• Spoon – Spoon, back in the ’90s, was named Nicolson’s Cafe, J K Rowling wrote the first few chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the Spoon Café
• Victoria Street – said to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley – you will have a chance to explore some of the shops here including Museum Context and Aha Ha Ha Jokes.
• The Elephant House Café – We will stop here for a sweet snack and some photos at this famous writing spot of J.K. Rowling

This morning we will explore The Royal Mile and search for Rowling’s golden handprints! – on our way to visit Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Gardens . We will have an opportunity to tour the magnificent castle and learn more about its place in Scottish history. –More than 4,000 alleged witches were put to death in Edinburgh. The castle moat was used to dispose of their bodies, who were thrown from the castle into the water below. If the witches drowned, they were given a full pardon, and if they survived, they were burned at the stake.

This afternoon we will have high tea at the Balmoral Hotel – this is where J.K. Rowling spent some time in room 552 writing the last of the Harry Potter books – The Deathly Hallows. She signed the statue of Hermes, Greek Goddess of Travel, located in the room.

This evening we will have dinner in a traditional Scottish pub.

Today we will take a day trip to the beautiful Alnwick Castle – better known to Harry Potter fans as Hogwarts! Alnwick Castle sits on the boarder of England and Scotland and is the second largest inhabited castle in England; it has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percys, for over 700 years. Parts of Alnwick Castle were used for scenes of Hogwarts Castle in the first two Harry Potter films! One of the most notable scenes is where Harry first learns to fly a broomstick in a lesson taught by Madame Hooch. The castle is a site to behold!

This afternoon, you will participate in a broomstick flying lesson on the castle grounds!

We will return to Edinburgh this evening.

Today you will have a chance to take a ride on the Hogwarts Express – a.k.a. the Jacobite steam train.

We will venture out for a day excursion to the Scottish Highlands – stopping at a scenic village on the way to hop aboard the Jacobite Steam train. We will travel along the Glenfinnan Viaduct – made famous in the films. You will have a chance to see Glencoe scenery (also featured in the movies) before our return trip.

This evening you will have time to explore more of Edinburgh and take one last walk on the Royal Mile.

The Universal Studio Tour takes guests through various film sets on the Universal Studios Lot. The entire experience lasts anywhere between 45 and 60 minutes and is led by a tram guide. The guide shares interesting information during the tour and is accompanied by pre-recorded videos and audio of Jimmy Fallon. A version of the tour can also be found at the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, though most purists would consider Hollywood’s version to be the best.

Jimmy Fallon has quite an interesting relationship with the Universal Studios brand of theme parks, starring in his own attraction, which is also located at Universal Studios Florida.

This ride, called Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, is a motion-simulator experience. While fun, the ride itself has been heavily criticized over the years, mostly due to guests growing tired of screen-based experiences . The attraction opened in 2017, replacing  Twister… Ride It Out, an attraction based on Twister  (1996).

The company announced a TV series based on all seven books about the boy wizard written by J.K. Rowling . See below for the most current answers to the most important questions about the project.

Early reports had each season of the series focusing on one book in the Harry Potter book series, which consists of seven novels, but Bloys said the project would run for “10 consecutive years,” which would seem to defy the 1 season, 1 book assertion. For those who say Fantastic Beasts could be leveraged to provide 10 seasons over 10 years, WBD brass said specifically during the announcement that FB will not be a part of the series.

Whatever the case, Bloys promised that, as the company embarks on its new Harry Potter adventure, “We do so with the full care and craft of this franchise.”

Who Is creating the Harry Potter series?

It has taken a bit, given the initial announcement was in April 2023, but in recent months Warner Bros. invited a select group of creatives in to pitch ideas for what the series could be. They were Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran and Michael Lesslie. Now, the streaming service and Warner Bros. Television have narrowed it to Jordan, Moran and newer addition Francesca Gardiner, sources said.

Deadline broke the news last month that Succession  writer  Francesca Gardiner  is among the finalists. Gardiner was a consulting producer on Seasons 3 and 4 of HBO’s  Succession . Before working on the Jesse Armstrong creation, she was an exec producer of HBO and BBC fantasy co- production   His Dark Materials  and was a co-exec producer of AMC’s  Killing Eve . She has also written on shows including Starz’s  The Rook  and Amazon’s  The Man In The High Castle.

Tom Moran is a British writer, who created Amazon series The Devil’s Hour , which starred Peter Capaldi. He also worked on Amazon sci-fi series The Feed and Rob Lowe cop drama Wild Bill .

It’s an interesting mix of Brits and Americans, most of whom have some experience working with streamers and many of whom have shepherded projects in the sci-fi/fantasy space.

We’ve heard that the group of writers were commissioned by Max to create pitches for a series reflecting their take on the IP. Rowling is understood to be involved in this pitching process. The trio will be able to hone in on their pitches for the next couple of months, with a decision on who gets the job expected in June. 

When will the Harry Potter series be released?

The series is expected to be on air in 2026, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” Zaslav told Wall Street analysts on the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call. “I was in London a few weeks ago with Casey [Bloys, CEO of HBO] and Channing [Dungey, chairperson of Warner Bros Television] and we spent some real time with JK and her team,” he enthused. “Both sides just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great.”

Given the results on that earnings call, WBD needs Harry Potter’s magic sooner rather than later.

Ditto J.K. Rowling, whose production company posted a 74% drop in profits in 2022. That rebounded somewhat after the stage version of  Harry Potter  And The Cursed Child  proved to be a post-pandemic crowd pleaser. The author got a $10.5 million paycheck for it in 2023.

The success of the stage show demonstrates that there’s still an appetite for Hogwarts-related content. Likewise the massive hit that is Hogwarts Legacy, which became the bestselling video game of 2023 , moving 22 million units. (That’s fantastic, but for comparison Rowling’s seven bestselling  Harry Potter  books have moved 600M copies worldwide.)

At a Goldman Sachs conference last year, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav made pointed out the need for more Hogwarts magic explicitly. Ignoring the Harry-less Fantastic Beasts films, the CEO insisted the boy wizard presents a huge opportunity, claiming that the IP has been “underused” of late.

“We haven’t done anything with Harry Potter for more than a decade,” he said, before going on to note that when one examines the performance of Warner Bros. over the last 20 years without accounting for it’s big three — Potter , Lord of the Rings and DC — the company’s performance is “relatively flat.”

Zaslav called that type of big-ticket IP “one of the big differentiators of this company.” And he seems to be counting on it to make a big difference.

“When you put those franchises in, it’s the best-performing studio in the world. We need to deploy our best capital, and we need to do it with the best creative people in the world,” he said.

How to watch the series

It will, of course, be on Max once the series is ready. The service has three price tiers: Max Ad Light, which goes for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year and allows two concurrent streams; Max Ad Free will be priced at $15.99 a month, or $149.99 a year, and will also allow two concurrent streams; and Max Ultimate Ad Free which costs $19.99 a month, or $199.99 a year, and allows access to four concurrent streams.

If you’re in Canada, WBD has struck a multi-year licensing agreement with Crave for the likes of  Harry Potter ,  Game of Thrones ,  the  DC  Universe and  HBO  content.

Which actors are starring in the series? Are any of the original Harry Potter stars returning?

There will be new actors playing the series’ main characters, but no one has been cast yet. Warner Bros. TV Group Chairman Channing Dungey said recently that that casting will come after they find a showrunner.

As for that, Warner Bros. is very likely looking to cast young actors, given that they’re proceeding through Rowling’s books in order. “The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12,” said Dungey of the casting process.

“We have been trying to be very close to the vest,” said Bloys. “We haven’t gone out to agencies. We have our own internal process where we’ve been thinking about people but we have not wanted to go out into the world. Now that the news is out there…we’ll start going out to the business.”

As for a return of any of the film franchise’s stars — like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson or Rupert Grint — never say never. It would certainly be a PR boost for the series and, while new actors will be cast in the primary roles, there are always flashforwards or the currently en vogue multiverse plot ploy that could create space for more familiar faces in the series.

But Daniel Radcliffe has said he is fine with sitting on the sidelines.

“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” Radcliffe told ComicBook.com . “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

Another longtime Potter player who likely won’t be involved is David Yates, who directed the last four movies,  Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix  (2007),  Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince  (2009) and  Deathly Hallows Part One and Two  (2010 and 2011). In addition, Yates took on the  Potter  spinoff  Fantastic Beasts  trilogy. He says there has been no conversation about his involvement with the series. And it sounds like he’s ok with that.

“Huge affection and a lovely group of people I worked with,” Yates told Deadline . “But we haven’t had a conversation since we finished it.”

“It’s been about ‘Let’s just park it, and be done for a while,'” he said of the Potter franchise.

“Never say never, I would say, but I’m excited about moving on,” he said.

Will J.K. Rowling be involved in the new Harry Potter TV series?

Yes. A deal for J.K. Rowling’s involvement in the series had been the biggest hurdle in its path to the screen: The author has creative control over any exploitation of her work. That agreement was finalized in 2023.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” said Rowling in a statement.

Since Warners launched its streaming service, there’s always been a goal to exploit Warners’ biggest franchise for streaming. Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav, taking the reigns after the merger last year, met with Rowling several times in the UK. He’s even spoken up in support of the author, who has been involved in an ongoing controversy over her comments on transgender issues . Asked about the streaming event about those controversies, Bloys demurred.

“No, I don’t think this is the forum [to discuss that],” he said. “That’s a very online conversation, very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into.”

“Our priority is what’s on the screen,” Bloys continued. “Obviously, the Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive and about love and self-acceptance. That’s our priority — what’s on screen.”

As for how close the author will be to the series, Bloys said, “[Rowling] will be involved. She’s an executive producer on the show. Her insights are going to be helpful on that.”

The author’s involvement could prove a hurdle to having the principals from the films involved in the series. Relations between Rowling, Radcliffe and Emma Watson can’t be great, given the author recently said she was “bloody angry” over stances taken by trans rights activists, which she sees being in opposition to women’s rights.

Rowling claimed that “thousands are complicit, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media and cynical corporations.” Asked specifically whether she would forgive Radcliffe and Watson for their unabashed pro-trans rights stance on the issue Rowling replied, “Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies.”

Bloys was clear, however, that WBD wasn’t entirely dependent on Rowling for the project.

“The TV show is new and we’re excited about that. But, remember, we’ve been in the Potter business for 20 years. This is not a new decision for us, we’re very comfortable being in the Potter business.”

How much will the series cost to produce?

“You know we make shows at this scale with House of the Dragon , Game of Thrones ,” said Bloys. “I imagine will be that scale or higher. The shorter answer is whatever it takes to make a quality show.”

Per Deadline reporting, House of the Dragon cost nearly $200 million and was the subject of HBO’s biggest marketing campaign ever, valued at over $100M in media spend (that’s a combo of ad spot value and hard cash shelled out). So fans can expect a similar outlay for the Potter series “or higher,” according to HBO/Max boss Bloys.

Will there be other Harry Potter-related projects?

“We’re free to do anything we want,” Zaslav has said, before hedging a bit. “Some areas we need to do with J.K., other areas we have the full ability to go forward. This is a full deployment on Max of Harry Potter. We can still develop other properties.”

Deadline understands that there may also be an opportunity for more than one of the above-mentioned writers to be involved and that Max is open to the possibility of developing more than one idea based on  Harry Potter.

How long has this been in the works?

Max and its then-parent company WarnerMedia  started exploring  a potential Harry Potter TV series a couple of years ago. At the time, Warner Bros. appointed Kids, Young Adult and Classics president Tom Ascheim to manage the Wizarding World and Potter franchises, which include theme parks, tours and the $9.1 billion-grossing theatrical library that spans the  Harry Potter  and spinoff  Fantastic Beasts  titles. Under that setup, Ascheim became WarnerMedia’s senior rep in its relationship with Rowling and her representatives, and exploratory conversations for a Max series got underway.

After the Discovery acquisition was completed a year ago, that unit was disbanded and  Ascheim exited the company . However, the importance of the   Harry Potter IP has only grown post-merger.

Zaslav spoke about his family’s own personal connection to the series.

“My wife and I, we read (the Harry Potter books) to each of our three kids,” said Zaslav, going off script at the Max announcement. “It’s really moving, for ten consecutive years, people will see  Harry Potter  on HBO; I mean it’s really something.”

Potterversity: A Harry Potter History Holiday Potterversity: A Potter Studies Podcast

Hop on a tour of the UK this summer to see Harry Potter and more beloved works of fantasy come to life. Zendaya's Stylist Talks Her 'Fierce' Red Carpet Persona, Says 'She'd Rather Be at Home' Watching Harry Potter

“She’s a different being that comes into me,” the 'Challengers' actress said of her fashion alter ego in her 'Vogue' cover story

Zendaya might be a red carpet pro, but she’s a very different person once the cameras are off.

In her cover story for Vogue’ s May 2024 issue, the actress, 27, opened up about her fierce fashion-forward persona that fans have come to know and love.

“She’s a different being that comes into me — my own Sasha Fierce,” the Euphoria star told the outlet. “She takes over and she does the carpet.” 

Zendaya added that she approaches red carpets the same way she would one of her on-screen characters.

“I have to buy her,” she explained. “I have to buy that this woman exists, or that this fantasy exists.”

The star’s years-long relationship with stylist and “image architect” Law Roach has been an integral part of her journey from Disney star to fashion icon. Roach spoke to Vogue about the performance aspect of Zendaya’s red carpet appearances, which he says pose a stark contrast to her real self.

The stylist said that getting glammed-up for red carpets “gave her this real confidence, like, Okay, let me put it all on and go out there and give this to the world, and then let me come home and take it all off and become myself again.”

Roach continued, “It’s so funny. People were like, ‘Oh, she’s so fierce.’ And, yeah, she is, on the inside. But she’d rather be at home, with her hair down and no makeup, with Noon, her dog, watching a movie, probably Harry Potter. ”

Zendaya has been proving her fashion prowess during the whirlwind press tour for her upcoming sports drama Challengers , in which she plays a tennis star who gets sidelined by an injury. The actress has continued to playfully lean into the film’s theme, donning a series of tennis-inspired looks .

While promoting the Luca Guadagnino-directed film in Sydney, Australia, she dazzled in a bespoke gown by fashion designer Jonathan Anderson, who's also the movie's costume designer. The glittering green dress featured a plunging neckline, waist-high slit and a graphic of a figure hitting a tennis ball with a racket.

At a photocall in Rome, Zendaya made a splash in a sporty holographic dress by Loewe accompanied by white stilettos with a neon yellow tennis ball punctured through the heels.

Always one to keep fans on their toes, the star also debuted a new honey-blonde hair color during the Challengers press tour.

Daniel Radcliffe made some very rare comments about fatherhood in a recent interview.

The 34-year-old Harry Potter star welcomed his first child – a son – with girlfriend Erin Darke in April 2023.

While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this week, Daniel opened up about his little boy and what it was like being a dad.

He opened up about balancing work with parenting duties and concerns for the future when his son understood that he was famous. Daniel even revealed if they would read Harry Potter together in the future.

If you were unaware, Daniel is currently starring in the musical Merrily We Roll Along . During the interview, he was asked if his little boy engages with the musical yet.

“My son is too young to be dancing. Although he has started walking and doing something that resembles dancing,” he joked, adding that Daniel prepared for the project while taking care of his son.

He said, “I held him while I was learning some of these songs. You try singing ‘Our Time’ holding your new baby. It’s impossible. It’s… You will just cry.”

Looking to the future, Daniel predicted “a really weird time” when his son eventually learns about his fame.

“This is a beautiful time when he is not aware of me being anything else but his dad, and that’s going to be really, really hard. I just want to keep me being famous a secret from him for as long as humanly possible,” he explained.

Will Harry Potter play a role in his son’s childhood? “I think I’ll read it to him if he wants me to read it to him. Like if he gets into it, yeah, of course I will,” he opined.

This isn’t the first time that Daniel has talked about parenthood. He previously revealed what is “terrifying” about the role but described it as an “awesome” experience .

On the topic of Harry Potter the actor and a costar were just bashed by author JK Rowling .

Visitors will be able to enjoy the exhibition 7 days week now through august 11, 2024.

New York, NY (February 15, 2024) – Due to overwhelming demand and the incredible response from visitors, Harry Potter: The Exhibition™ has extended its run in the heart of New York City for the final time until August 11, 2024, with lots of exciting magical moments in store over the next few months. 

In addition to extending its run, Harry Potter: The Exhibition is thrilled to introduce an exciting new event – After-Hours Night. Starting on Thursday, February 29 and occurring once a month for the rest of the engagement, this evening ticket offers visitors who are over the age of 18 a complimentary beverage, cocktail (with proper 21+ ID), mocktail or soda and snack before they can explore the exhibition at their own pace. Harry Potter: The Exhibition in New York is now open seven days a week welcoming guests through the summer. Since premiering in Philadelphia in 2022, this exhibition has been visited by over 2 million guests in seven cities around the world.  The interactive, record-breaking exhibition created and developed by Imagine Exhibitions, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment, and EMC Presents, is conveniently located in the heart of Herald Square in Midtown on the corner of 34 th and 6 th Ave and is easily accessible via Penn Station, Port Authority, or subway.  

Harry Potter: The Exhibition takes visitors of all ages on a one-of-a-kind journey celebrating the entire Wizarding World and includes some of the most iconic moments from the beloved books and films of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts . Upon entry, everyone is given an exhibition wristband for a personalized experience using best-in-class immersive design and technology. From selecting a Hogwarts house (either Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin) to picking your wand and Patronus, visitors will be able to create their own, uniquely magical moments while earning points for their house with each interactive activity.  

Throughout the exhibition, visitors will experience galleries celebrating beloved film moments and locations, including the hall of moving portraits, the Great Hall, and Hogwarts classes, complimented by authentic props and costumes. Hagrid’s Hut and oversized chair is perfect for photo opps, as is the “cupboard under the stairs” from Harry’s childhood. In addition, vignettes from Fantastic Beasts and costumes from the Tony® award-winning Broadway production Harry Potter and The Cursed Child are included in the exhibition, making Harry Potter: The Exhibition the most in-depth touring exhibition for the Wizarding World, perfect for both longtime fans and those just starting to experience the magic. 

Exhibition Gallery Highlights

From Page to Screen Gallery  showcases a first edition of  Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone  protected in a Gringotts-inspired vault and is surrounded by inspirational video and literary quotes, reconnecting guests to the story as they are introduced to the exhibition. 

Hogwarts Castle Gallery  features an immersive multimedia experience with iconic elements like the Whomping Willow, Dementors, and the Marauder’s Map, where guests will see their name appear, prompting them to continue their exploration of the exhibition. 

The Great Hall Gallery  is a space that allows visitors to celebrate magical seasonal moments in its iconic architecture.

The  Hogwarts Houses Gallery  sets the foundation for the exhibition experience, allowing guests the opportunity to experience more personalized moments with the Hogwarts house they select during their preregistration. While guests may gravitate towards one house, this gallery will enable visitors to experience all of the Hogwarts houses in a celebratory hall featuring an iconic Sorting Hat, perfect for photo ops, while surrounded by freshly designed house crests on meticulously created stained glass windows. 

Hogwarts  Classrooms Galleries  are filled with iconic props, creatures, and costumes. Visitors will interact with magical lessons and games through digital touchscreens to reveal behind-the-scenes secrets about iconic classroom moments. They will brew potions in the Potions classroom, predict the future in Divination, pot a mandrake in the Herbology Greenhouse, and use their digital wand to defeat a boggart in Defense Against the Dark Arts. 

Hagrid’s Hut and The Forbidden Forest  offer an interactive Patronus charm experience. Guests will then uncover iconic creatures, such as centaurs and Acromantula, hidden in the forest and explore inside a recreation of Hagrid’s Hut. 

An exclusive collection of  Harry Potter: The Exhibition  merchandise will be available in the onsite retail shop for guests to celebrate their fandom through an assortment of themed collections. Fans can choose from a range of products such as apparel, jewelry, and edible treats, including fan-favorite Chocolate Frogs and bottled Butterbeer, as well as merchandise not available at any other Wizarding World experience.
