Intex Excursion 5 Review

The phrase “inflatable boat” often brings to mind something flimsy, but the Intex Excursion 5 is much more than that. Intex has designed this boat to be easy to inflate and store, and they’ve added plenty of features to add to the boat’s functionality, comfort, and fun.

Intex understands fun and water. They have over forty years of history — starting with beach balls, and then pools, spas, pool toys, and inflatable boats. They’re committed to creating products that are fun and super affordable.

Additionally, Intex has an intense focus on sustainability and safety. They’ve worked for ten years to lower the carbon-footprint of their products, and are active on a wide variety of committees to set the safety standards within the industry.

Intex puts their safety standards to practice, routinely testing their products to make sure they live up the high standards set for them. Their history in the market and commitment to safety and quality makes the Excursion 5 a solid choice for anyone looking to have some fun on the water. The Intex Excursion 5 is also US Coast Guard Approved.

In this Intex Excursion 5 review, we’ll discuss the boat’s best features, the specs, the pros and cons, warranty coverage, what’s included, and more.

In a Hurry? Here’s a Quick Summary…

Intex excursion 5 review: boat overview.

Intex Excursion 5 Boat

The Excursion 5 has three air chambers, including an auxiliary chamber in the hull to make sure that one puncture isn’t going to sink the boat.

If you like options, the Intex Excursion 5 comes with oar locks and fittings to mount a trolling motor.

A lot of the little things about the Excursion 5 reveal the effort Intex put into making the boat both comfortable and easy to use. This is clear to see by looking at the specifications, features, and included accessories.

Top Features

Intex Excursion 5

  • Two Inflatable Seats with backrests and cushions
  • Four built-in Fishing Rod Holders
  • All-around Grab-line for easy carrying
  • Grab Handle on the bow
  • The Inflatable Floor, adding to the comfort and rigidity of the boat
  • Motor Mount Fitting
  • Oar Locks and Oar Holders that are fixed onto the boat
  • Boston Valves on the two main chambers to speed up the inflating and deflating processes

Who is the Excursion 5 Best For?

Anyone looking for a fun, easy-going time on the water will enjoy the Excursion 5. It’s easy to set up, and it only takes a few minutes to inflate and get into the water.

The 1,000 pound max load that the Excursion 5 can support along with the four built-in fishing rod holders makes this a great option for a fisherman who wants to get out and spend the day on the water.

If relaxing is your main goal, it’s probably a good idea to buy a small trolling motor. The built-in motor fitting is perfect for those who don’t want to deal with rowing the Excursion 5.

One thing to note, is that this isn’t the boat for adrenaline junkies and speed freaks. Even with the trolling motor on, the Intex Excursion 5 will only travel at a leisurely speed of about 5mph. Also, if you’re looking for something that was designed for more longterm durability, we would recommend Intex’s Mariner 4 inflatable boat .

However, the ease of setting up and the relatively small size of the Excursion 5 when packed makes it absolutely perfect for those who want a hassle-free, inexpensive way to spend some time on the water.

Intex Excursion 5 Rating

  • Portability
  • Customer Service

What’s Included

Intex Excursion 5 Accessories

Also, all Intex boats are backed by a 30 day warranty. We would really love to see Intex’s warranty extended to at least a year.

I want to mount an outboard motor on the Intex Excursion 5. What is the recommended motor size? An outboard motor like a trolling motor or 2 HP gas motor will work. Anything larger than that is not recommended.

Can I repair the Excursion 5 myself if it develops an air leak? Small pinhole leaks and punctures are easily patched, but repairs to holes larger than 2 inches is discouraged by Intex for safety reasons.

Do I need to register the Excursion 5? Yes, it would definitely need to be registered if you’re going to put a motor on.

How do I get a Certificate of Origin to register the boat? Contact Intex and provide them with the boat’s Hull Identification Number, found on the bottom of the capacity label at the boat’s stern.

Can you turn the seats around to face in the same direction instead of each other? No, the seats are fixed. The mounts built in for them don’t allow for either seat to be turned around. You can take them out entirely, however.

How long does it take to inflate the Excursion 5? The boat takes about 15 minutes or so to inflate with the manual pump (included). An electric pump will do the same job in five to ten minutes.

Can a single person row the Intex Excursion 5? Yes it’s possible, although it’s not easy due to the boat’s shape. If you’re planning to go out alone, it is probably a good idea to invest in a small outboard motor. Also, if you don’t necessarily need a boat as big as the Excursion 5, we recommend checking out the smaller Intex Excursion 4 .

How many people can I take fishing with me? Given the gear and tackle you’d have to take along, the Intex Excursion 5 will be able to take two or three fishermen comfortably.

Final Thoughts

Intex Excursion 5 Inflatable Boat

The Excursion 5 is perfect for a leisurely row on the lake or relaxing with friends on a lazy afternoon. Since the seats face each other, it’s perfect for those old-fashioned, face-to-face conversations people seem to be missing in their hectic, tech-driven modern lives.

With the Excursion 5, Intex has gone out of their way to make things as relaxed and comfortable as possible. The inflatable floor is there to stabilize the boat, but also to add comfort for passengers who don’t have a seat. There are carry lines and a handle to make the boat easy to carry, and it’s light enough for anyone to transport.

The Intex Excursion 5 gives the owner peace-of-mind as it is constructed out of a thick PVC vinyl skin. Even if it springs a leak, the boat sports three air chambers, so a single puncture won’t sink the boat.

If you really make the Excursion 5 boating experience completely effort free, you’ll want to invest in a small outboard motor and an electric pump to cut down on the effort that comes with inflating and rowing the boat. The Excursion 5 comes with a motor mount fitting, so you’ll have no trouble installing a motor.

Overall, the Intex Excursion 5 is fun, cheap, and portable — making it a good boat for budget-minded recreational users.

Intex Excursion 5 Review: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

If you’re looking for an inflatable boat for the family, one of the first options you’ll come across is the Intex Excursion 5.

When it comes to inflatables, few brands are as well known as Intex. They are famous for their highly affordable boat line-up.

But are these boats any good?

To answer this, we’re going to give you a complete review of the Intex Excursion 5. We’ll have a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of this boat.

This way, you can decide for yourself whether this is a bang for the buck, or a waste of cash. You’ll know if this is the boat for you, or if you should keep searching.

Who is this Product For?

What’s in the box, alternatives.

5 Persons on a Heavy Duty Fishing Boat Raft

This boat is perfect for a day out on the lake with the family. It’s capable of carrying up to 1,300 lbs. Plus, there’s enough room for up to 5 adults to fit comfortably.

Speaking of comfort, this product comes with inflatable seats as well. With these, you can sit and relax as you float along.

The best part? This boat is super affordable. It’s a great choice for anyone looking to get their first boat. With it, you won’t have to cash in to enjoy boating to the fullest.

If you’ve never had an inflatable before, you also won’t have any problems. Setting it up is very easy. All you have to do is pump it up, and you’re ready to go.

All of these make this product perfect for first-time buyers. It’s also a great choice for anyone who wants to take their family or friends to the lake without spending too much.

Intex Excursion 5 inflatable boat review part 1

When you order your Intex Excursion 5, you get more than just the boat. Included in the package are some freebies as well.

Almost every boat in the market comes with a set of oars. But you should never underestimate how important these are. With Excursion 5, you’ll get a nice set of aluminum oars to navigate without a motor.

One of the props of using inflatable boats is that they’re easy to bring along. Well, the Excursion 5 is even easier thanks to the carry bag it comes with. This bag is also a great place to store your boat once you’ve deflated it.

Also in the box is an Intex hand pump, which is one of our top 10 pumps for inflatable boats . It’s a double-action pump, putting air in as you push and pull. Using this will take some work, but you can blow up your entire boat within 15 minutes.

Finally, there’s also a repair kit included . Whenever you come across minor problems, this kit allows you to fix them up in no time.

With these, you’ll have everything you need for your trip. Nothing is lacking in this complete package. That’s why we say this is a great option for first-timers.

Overview of Features

A product wouldn’t be so popular if it was no good, would it? But at the same time, no boat is perfect, especially one that costs so little.

Now that you know who this boat is for, and what it comes with, let’s look at the boat itself.

Every boat has a good, a bad, and an ugly side. So let’s take a look at each one.

Intex Excursion Inflatable 5 Person

Aside from being an affordable, easy-to-use boat with a bunch of freebies, there’s still a lot of good things to say about the Intex Excursion 5. We like the:

  • Are AGM And Gel Batteries Good For Trolling Motors?
  • Intex vs. Minn Kota Trolling Motors
  • Are Noco Marine Battery Chargers Good?
  • Vinyl build
  • 3-chamber design
  • Boston valves
  • Convenience features
  • Lightweight

You’d think a cheap boat would be made of poor material. However, this boat is made from rugged vinyl. It is surprisingly strong, and won’t puncture easily.

It also features a 3-chamber design. This way, if one leaks, the other two will keep their air and keep your boat afloat. You’ll only need to patch one chamber.

Each of these chambers contains a Boston valve. If you’ve read our complete guide to Boston valves , you know that these are one of the best valves for inflating your boat. With it, you can get air in without worrying about it escaping.

All along the side of the boat are other features to make your trips more convenient and enjoyable. There are oar holders, fishing rod holders, grab handles, and a gear pouch. There are also fittings on the stern for attaching a motor mount .

To top it all off, this boat is incredibly lightweight. The entire package only weighs 50 lbs, which is incredible for a 5-person boat. With the carry bag it comes with, you can bring this boat along with ease.

Every salesperson tries to hide the bad sides of their product as much as possible. But here at Anchor Travel, we’re committed to giving our readers the whole picture.

Before you buy the Excursion 5, you should know a few things. We don’t like the

  • Short paddles
  • Tendency to drift away
  • Low-quality plastic

Keep in mind that the Excursion 5 is quite a wide boat. It’s 5 ft. and 6in. across. To row, you’d need paddles that are quite long.

Unfortunately, the paddles are a bit short. It works, but it may be a little uncomfortable to navigate this boat alone.

The boat is also super lightweight, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. The bad side of this is that the boat tends to drift easily. Any light current will carry your boat, so you’ll need an anchor to stay in place.

Lastly, the oar holders, grab handles, and fishing rod holders are all made from plastic. For the most part, this isn’t a big deal, but you wouldn’t want to test their strength either.

When you purchase this boat, it’s best to pump it up right away as a test. There’s always a few bad eggs, especially for low-cost boats. So do this right away, because you may find a leak right off the box .

The good news is that Amazon has a return policy. If you find a problem within 30-days, you can send it back for a replacement. Then you’ll be good to go.

Try not to miss this window, because then you’ll have to deal with Intex yourself. And this isn’t the most pleasant experience. You’ll have to be quite persistent to get a replacement from this company.

So when you get your boat, test it right away.

Overall, it’s good to remember how much you are paying for this boat. You can’t pay the price of an entry-level boat and expect a yacht.

By now, you get what the Intex Excursion 5 is about. It isn’t top-of-the-line quality, but it also doesn’t cost much at all.

If you’re willing to spend more for extra quality, you can check out brands like ALEKO . Their boats, such as the BT320HU below, were made to last. This boat is heavy-duty all-round. It even has an aluminum floor for extra strength and stability. Plus, it’s big enough to carry 4 people, so you can bring everyone along.

When you take all things into consideration, it’s not hard to see why the Intex Excursion 5 is such a popular boat.

Canopy for Excursion 5

  • Thread starter Randel
  • Start date Aug 30, 2008
  • Aug 30, 2008

We love our Intex Excursion 5 (actually this is our first experience with inflatables) and have rigged it up with a motor mount and a Minn-Kota electric 30 lb thrust motor - nice and quiet, especially for nature viewing. I know other inflatable boats have canopies available, but apparently where Intex falls short in comparison is the lack of accessories available. My wife and I were thinking of rigging up a canopy ourselves, but I thought "why reinvent the wheel" if someone else has some experience or any ideas with this. Anyone?

Re: Canopy for Excursion 5 Hello Randel, been searching google for canopies. There are plenty out there. I think most canopies are fastened in a simalar way. Do look at these particular web sites. www.onlinesports.com and www.boatstogo.com . Maybe you'll have some luck. I also would like one for my newly purchased Intex Marine 400 inflatable. Good Luck!

22 March 2024

MIR Travel Company will tell you where and how to get there! The excursion is called the Golden Ring of Russia and passes through several Old Russian cities. The route itself was developed in 1967 with the inclusion of 8 cities: Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir.

MASTERPIECES OF RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE (Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val)

The Tretiakov Gallery’s building on Krymsky Val houses the only permanent exhibition of 20th century Russian art in the country. It displays works of Russian avant-garde masters such as K.Malevich, V.Kandinsky, M.Chagall, P.Filonov. This collection was later extended by paintings of the Socialist Realism of the period 1930s-1950s. The works of artists of the «Severe Style» from the 1960s are shown together with the «underground» art, which started the «second wave» of Russian avant-garde. Then the exhibition was completed by works of the 1980s-1990s and now, in accordance with the idea of the founder, the collection is constantly updated with the latest and most topical works of Russian artists.

HOUSE OF THE BOYARS ROMANOV

Zaryadye - that's how in the old days was called the central part of Moscow located "behind the ranks" (in Russian "za ryadami") of market shops adjacent to the Kremlin. The house of the boyars Romanov is the only building that remains today from that large estate. In the middle of the 20th century, most of the Zaryadye district was demolished, and nowadays in the whole old quarter there are only several buildings along the Varvarka street. However, this small area of Moscow is truly unique in its kind and is an authentic museum of ancient Russian outdoor architecture of the XVI-XVIII centuries. Now the house of the Boyars Romanov is a museum of the daily life of ancient Russia.

FOLK SHOW KOSTROMA

From mid June till mid September  Each summer world famous folk-dance ensemble Kostroma presents its show in Moscow. The plot of the show is the history of Russia from old times to the present moment and the multicultural traditions of our country, presented in national dances and songs. Around 50 artists, colourful sets, beautiful costumes make the show unforgettable.

Duration of the show — 2 h. (Guide’s assistance – only one way)

7 BREATHTAKING observation decks for spectacular views of Moscow

intex excursion 5 roof

1. Observation decks at Moscow City

intex excursion 5 roof

There are two main observation decks in the Moscow City business district. They offer a 360-degree panoramic view of the Russian capital.

The first is located on the 56th floor of the Empire Tower . It can only be accessed with a tour, which takes place every 30 minutes. It is located at a height of 215 meters, occupies an entire floor.

However, the highest observation deck – PANORAMA 360 – is located on the 89th floor of the Federation Tower.  It takes less than a minute to access it by elevator and you can visit it without a tour, but remember to purchase a ticket first!

Presnenskaya Naberezhnaya, 12

2. Ostankino TV Tower

intex excursion 5 roof

An excursion to the Ostankino TV Tower includes visits to two observation decks: a covered one at a height of 337 meters and an open one at a height of 340 meters. For a long time (until the PANORAMA 360 was opened), Ostankino Tower offered the highest observation point in Moscow. The viewing platforms here offer excellent views of VDNKh, the Botanical Gardens, the Moscow City skyscrapers and many other parts of Moscow.

Once you are here, it’s worth having a drink or something to eat at the café. It has a revolving floor and makes a full circle every 40 minutes!

3. Ivan the Great Bell Tower

intex excursion 5 roof

Once you are inside the Kremlin, you can climb 137 steps up to the viewing platform at the top of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower , which is 25 meters tall. From the top, you get splendid views of the Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin and the Moskva River embankments.

4. Observation deck at the Central Children's Store

intex excursion 5 roof

There is a small observation deck on the rooftop of the newly renovated Central Children's Store in Lubyanka, offering up-close views of central Moscow, including the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, Christ the Savior Cathedral and the city's central streets. You can use the tower viewers installed there to take a closer look at the Kremlin towers or the three-tier gilded inscription under the dome of Ivan the Great Bell Tower. Let us know what you think it says!

Teatral'nyy Proyezd, 5

5. Sparrow Hills

intex excursion 5 roof

The viewing platform on the steep bank of the Moskva River can be rightly called one of Moscow's main sites. Entrance is free and it offers panoramic views of central Moscow, the Luzhniki stadium and the famous Seven Sisters buildings.

Since 2018, it can also be reached by a cable car from the Luzhniki stadium – the views that you will experience during the ride in the cable car are no less spectacular!

Universitetskaya Square

 7. Observation deck at Gorky Park

intex excursion 5 roof

A walk in Gorky Park would not be complete without a visit to its observation deck situated on the roof of the Main Entrance’s arch. From there you can see many interesting things, and if you make use of the tower viewers, you’ll be able to take a closer look at the park alleys, as well as the Krymsky Bridge, the Seven Sisters buildings and Christ the Savior Cathedral.

Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral

Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral

Red Square, in the very center of the city, is definitely number one on any visitor’s list of things to see and do in Moscow. Together with the Kremlin, it forms the most important of the three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the city, and is, quite rightly, one of the most famous city squares in the world.

The history of Red Square goes hand in hand with that of the Kremlin - when the stone walls were built around the Kremlin in the 1490s the builders decided to leave an open area to the east of the Kremlin wall so that attackers would have no cover if they decided to attack the Kremlin from that direction. This big open area soon became a marketplace, a place for public gatherings, religious ceremonies, and, at a time when few people could read, for public announcements. You can still see the stone platform where the heralds used to read out the Tsar’s edicts. The square was used for markets right up until the 20 th Century, and there was a tram stop here.

After the Revolution Moscow became the capital city again, the Kremlin became the center of government, and Red Square took on new functions. Lenin’s mausoleum was built here, first in wood, and then in marble, and, during the Great Patriotic War the Square was used for great military parades, a tradition that has continued until the present day.

On our tour you will walk around Red Square and the guide will tell you about its history, so closely linked to the history of Moscow and of Russia itself. You will admire the buildings that surround the square: the palatial State Historical Museum , built in the 19 th in an ‘old Russian’ style, the 16th-century Kremlin wall and the Spasskaya Tower with its famous clock, the charming Kazan Church , GUM - the famous 19th-century department store with its glass roof designed by the great architect and engineer Shukhov, and, directly opposite it, Lenin’s mausoleum . All these buildings, from different periods of history and in styles, nevertheless form a harmonious whole.

The highlight of the tour is definitely the excursion around the interior of Saint Basil’s church , with its richly-painted chapels connected by galleries and corridors, and windows with dramatic views over Red Square. Saint Basil’s Church, which dominates the east end of the square is often considered to be the high point of Russian architecture, and is known around the world as a symbol of Russia. It was built in the 1550s as a group of linked churches to commemorate the conquest of the city of Kazan, and they were combined in the next century to form the church as we see it today. It was Moscow’s tallest building until the Ivan the Great bell tower in the Kremlin was built in 1600. The church narrowly avoided getting demolished twice, once by Napoleon, and once by Stalin. Fortunately this unique church, now a museum, was preserved for future generations to admire.

With so much to see in such a small space, so many layers of history and so many wonderful stories, we are sure that this trip will leave you with many lasting memories and inspire you to learn more about Russia’s history.
