Cyprus

Day 1: Arrival in Ercan and transfer to our star hotel

We will land in Ercan on the wonderful northern half of the island. Our friendly and competent English-speaking guide will meet us at the airport and accompany us to our modern travel coach. We travel together in our modern and air-conditioned coach to our star hotel in the Famagusta area, where we will spend the first three nights.

Day 2: Nicosia, Ancient Salamis & St. Barnabas’ Monastery

Welcome to the labyrinth of tranquil narrow streets in Nicosia – Europe’s last divided capital. We will start off by exploring the northern section of the city where we will visit the Ottoman caravanserai (admission included) with its splendid inner courtyard and oriental flair. We will continue on foot across the “border”, the so-called Green Line, to the southern section of the city. Immerse yourself in the exciting bustle of the picturesque alleys and walk along the Venetian Wall. We will then travel to the wonderful Roman city of Salamis, by the sea (admission included). There we will marvel at the ruins of the gymnasium, the forum and the thermal baths. To finish our eventful day, we will visit the nearby St. Barnabas’ Monastery (admission included) to stand quietly in front of the sarcophagus of St. Barnabas’ the Apostle, martyr and patron saint of Cyprus.

Day 3: St. Andrew’s Monastery, Golden Beach & Agios Afksentios Church

Today, we undertake a panoramic trip to the untouched part of Northern Cyprus towards Karpaz. We first pass by the picturesque fishing village Dipkarpaz and continue on to the fascinating St. Andrew’s Monastery (admission included). It was dedicated to the apostle Andrew and is considered one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations of the island. We then arrive at the Golden Beach, probably the most beautiful beach in Cyprus. On a leisurely walk, we might, with a bit of luck, spot the tracks of the well-known sea turtles ”Caretta Caretta” in the sand. As a final highlight, we visit the impressive Agios Afksentios Church in Büyükkonok (admission included), which an EU cultural project has restored.

Day 4: Famagusta, St. Nicholas’ Cathedral & Miniature Park

The next highlight of today’s discovery tour: the majestic St. Nicholas’ Cathedral (admission included), now known as Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque. Then, in the port of Famagusta, we will encounter a fascinating, centuries-old handicraft in a modern rug production business. The variety, designs and riot of colours seen in these hand-knotted carpets will inspire us. We will then head towards the Miniature Park (admission included) where we can look forward to miniatures of the 15 most important highlights offered by the island. We will spend the next 4 nights in the peaceful Kyrenia region.

Bellapais

Day 5: Bellapais‘ Monastery, Kyrenia seaport, castle & Ship museum

Through the mighty Pentadaktylos Mountains, we drive up to an altitude of 700 metres and experience the famous Bellapais Monastery (admission included) – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture built with the help of the crusaders. During the 13 th century, countless Christian pilgrims visited the monastery where a fragment of the Holy Cross was stored. We will enjoy a breath-taking panorama view of the coastal town of Kyrenia, which once inspired the author Lawrence Durrel to write his famous book titled “Bitter Lemons”. After that we will set off for the old harbour in Kyrenia where white boats bob peacefully in the turquoise water. We will stroll along the promenade as far as the castle (admission included), the city‘s landmark. Its walls tower an impressive 21 metres in front of us. Not far away, we admire an ancient shipwreck from 300 BC. In the museum (admission included), we can admire the wellpreserved original parts of the ancient ship. The great craftsman tradition will shortly afterwards take us to a jewellery and leather gallery. While we are there, you will also have the opportunity to purchase a personal souvenir of your holiday. We round off the evening in a comfortable star hotel.

Day 6 – 7: Kyrenia – the cultural pearl of the sunny island

To conclude this interesting and eventful cultural trip, there will be plenty of time for relaxation and new discoveries. Relax by the pool wander slowly along the stunning or visit a traditional steam bath. The picturesque cafés in the port town of Kyrenia also offer the perfect opportunity to linger and enjoy. Other people might explore natural and cultural treasures in the surrounding area on their own: the Gecitköy dam and the ancient city of Soli as well as the impressive Church of St. Mamas with its fantastic frescoes.

Day 8: Homeward journey

Today, an unforgettable week of holidays draws to a close. We have experienced a lot together and made plenty of friends, many of whom will doubtless be saying “We hope to see each other again on the next trip!“.

National information on (Northern) Cyprus

Comparison of temperatures, general note:.

Below is an information overview. The conditions of entry, as well as the political and health situation, can change anywhere in the world at any time. We therefore recommend checking before your trip. Please check the website of the Foreign Office ( www.gov.uk/ ) before your departure.

The island of Cyprus is in the eastern Mediterranean and is the third-largest Mediterranean island after Sicily and Sardinia. Geographically, the island belongs to Asia but is regarded as European both politically and culturally. Cyprus has been divided since 1974. The internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus only controls the southern section of the island, not the northern section which is delineated from the South by a demarcation line (Green Line). Only Turkey recognises the northern section of Cyprus as an independent state. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus comprises just over one-third of the island. Hand-made carpets, jewellery and leather goods are an integral part and in some cases a centuries-old tradition of oriental culture – which is why our tour also includes a visit to a jewellery maker, a leather merchant and a traditional carpet weaver. Here you will discover some fascinating facts about the art of carpet weaving and see how hand-woven carpets have been made throughout the generations. In interesting demonstrations, you will learn more about preparing the silk threads, natural wool dyeing and very intricate and elaborate knots. You will then get to spend an hour or two in the respective factories looking at the works of art and products. Bartering is a typical Turkish custom. If you are not interested in buying anything, the traders will also accept a clear no. No bartering takes place in department stores and supermarkets, or at markets where local farmers sell their vegetables. In Cyprus, it is customary to give tips. Similar to the USA, this forms part of income for people working in the service sector. Moreover, it symbolises recognition for the service provided. One can tip chambermaids £1 per night. In a restaurant or taxi, tipping around 10% of the billed sum is customary. Tips are not given in shops. On group trips, the suggested tip for a tour guide could be £2 per person per day, while for bus drivers the appropriate tip is around £1 – 2 per day per person. Of course, everyone may decide for themselves whether and how much of a tip they wish to give.

In the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, traffic drives on the left.

Electricity:

The supply voltage is 240 V, 50 HZ. An adapter is necessary.

Local time:

The time difference between the UK and Northern Cyprus is plus two hours throughout the year.

Making telephone calls:

The country code for Northern Cyprus is 0090 with the zero cancelled before the area code. If you are calling the UK from Northern Cyprus, please dial 0044 and the area code without the zero.

Entry requirements for British citizens:

British citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, less than 10 years old and should have a full blank page for the entry and exit stamps. As a visitor, your passport will be stamped when you enter and exit Cyprus. Border guards will use the passport stamps to check you are complying with the 90-day visa-free limit for short stays. Please note: All travellers travelling from Northern Cyprus to the UK must officially enter Türkiye before flying on to the UK. All travellers must pass through the Turkish entry checkpoint at the Antalya airport and then check in again for the connecting flight. Nationals of other countries are advised to inquire at the Turkish Embassy about the entry requirements applicable to them. Regulations in respect of passport and visa requirements for Cyprus are the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (“MFA”) whose Web site is http://mfa.gov.ct.tr/consular-info/visa-regulations/ . Whilst we endeavour to provide guidance where necessary, we can not be responsible for any problems encountered (whether at any point of entry or elsewhere) in the event that passport and visa requirements are not satisfied.

Crossing the “Green Line”: Travelling between the northern and southern sections of Cyprus does not generally present a problem with valid travel documents at the designated border crossings. Usually, there are no waiting periods.

Tour guides:

Additional packages:, currency in turkey and northern cyprus:.

Since 1 January 2009, the currency has once again been called the Turkish lira (TRY). Exchange rate (as at February 2024): 1 GBP = 39.43 TRY; 1 TRY = 0.03 GBP.

Banks/Credit cards:

Euro cheques and travellers’ cheques are accepted by most banks, hotels and bureaux de change. Cash can be exchanged at the banks during business hours: Mon. to Fri., 8 a.m. to 12 midday in summer and Mon. to Fri., 8 a.m. to 12 midday and 2 to 4 p.m. in winter. ATTENTION: Caution is advised when paying with bank or credit cards as criminals may try to copy the traveller’s bank card and obtain the relevant PIN code without being noticed to then withdraw cash from cash machines using fake cards. Travellers are therefore advised to keep an eye on their bank card when paying with it and to enter their PIN number with discretion. Care should also be taken when using bank and credit cards with PIN code in exchange offices.

Customs regulations:

The following regulations apply for tourists: import of foreign currency is unlimited. As for exporting currency, a total amount of 5,000 US dollars or the equivalent in TRY is permitted. Travellers may import and export personal jewellery to a total value of 15,000 US dollars. Any value higher than this must be declared when entering the country. Documentation is required for purchases made in Cyprus. Otherwise, the following goods per person may be carried upon entry into Turkey (does not apply to transit travellers): personal belongings as items for personal use, incl. medical articles (devices) and medicine as well as giftware to a value of £ 250. The purchase, possession and export of “cultural and natural properties” is severely punished (prison sentence of up to 10 years), as this property is regarded as state-owned assets. In case of violation, several months of custody and high bail fees (currently approx. £ 7,540) are common procedure for tourists, too, even if they hold antiques or old objects of supposedly small value. In individual cases, prison sentences are imposed. You are therefore urgently advised not to acquire or take along antiques, old coins, fossils etc. from retailers. Important: If you are travelling to Great Britain from outside the UK, your personal allowances mean you can bring in a certain amount of goods without paying tax or duty. If you go over your allowances you must declare all your goods and pay tax and duty on all the goods in that category. Please inform yourself about the current customs regulations: www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/arriving-in-Great-Britain

Please note:

Photographs may not be taken near the buffer zone and military facilities throughout Cyprus. Such bans may not always be indicated.

Medical information:

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on the TravelHealthPro website ( https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries ). Each country-specific page has information on vaccine recommendations, any current health risks or outbreaks, and factsheets with information on staying healthy abroad. Every traveller should be sufficiently protected against tetanus and polio as well as hepatitis, if needs be. Caution is advised when eating uncooked food, unpasteurised dairy products (e.g. fresh milk, ice cream) and fruit that can not be peeled. Please avoid drinking tap water and ice cubes in drinks! Rule of thumb: do not eat anything that can not be cooked or peeled! The costs of medical treatment in the northern part of Cyprus are not generally covered by British health insurance companies. Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel. Make sure you have private travel health insurance. Such policies usually also offer benefits not covered by state health insurance companies, e.g. the costs of repatriation. Customers should ensure that they are physically and psychologically fit for undertaking the selected trip and make the necessary queries concerning the level of physical and psychological fitness required. Please observe that the excursions are accessible by foot only and that the buses used for the roundtrip are not customised to transport wheelchairs or similar devices.

Day 3: Göreme (World Heritage) & Cavusin

Over millennia, volcanic eruptions, wind and weather have created a strange landscape peppered with tuff rock formations. 2,000 years ago, the region‘s inhabitants began digging their homes, churches and underground cities into the soft stone. The open-air museum in Göreme (admission included) is part of Cappadocia‘s UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage and, with its numerous cloisters, cave churches and wall frescoes, is the highlight of any trip to Cappadocia. To end the day, we are invited to enjoy tasty Turkish tea in the idyllic village of Cavusin.

Day 4: Monks Valley (World Heritage), Sinasos & Valley of Love

Surrounded by vineyards and apricot trees, we descend into Monks Valley (admission included) and into a fairytale world. Together with Göreme, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unique rock formations and the constantly changing colours promise moments that will remain with you forever. Monks Valley is also part of Cappadocia‘s UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage. We will carry on to the hidden village of Sinasos with its ancient Greek manor houses. In a traditional carpet factory, we will experience the fascinating, centuries-old craft of carpet-making. The variety, designs and riot of colours seen in these hand-knotted carpets will amaze you. We will end the day with a photo opportunity in the Valley of Doves and a romantic walk through the Valley of Love.

Underground cities

Day 5: Underground cities, historic Silk Road & mediaeval caravanserais

More than 100 underground cities sunk into the mountains around Cappadocia make it surely the most mysterious capital in the region. In one of these labyrinthine cities, we will explore the secrets of underground living (admission included). We then drive past impressive landscapes and isolated villages. All along the historic Silk Road are numerous mediaeval caravanserais. In one of these stopping places, we will learn about the social aspects of this non-commercial facility (admission included). We continue on to our hotel with star comfort in Antalya.

Day 6: Antalya, hist. Old Town & Karpuzkaldiran Waterfall

Today, we set off for Antalya, the capital of the Mediterranean region. After an extensive tour of the city, we will visit Antalya‘s Old Town. The labyrinthine streets, surrounded by fragrant bougainvillea, as well as the beautifully preserved Turkish manor houses in the Old Town, offer an incomparable impression of everyday Mediterranean life. Türkiyes great tradition of craftsmanship then takes us to a jewellery and leather factory. As well as learning about how things are made by hand, you will also have the opportunity to acquire a personal souvenir of your holiday. We will then marvel at the impressive Karpuzkaldiran Waterfall, which tumbles down into the open sea.

Day 7: Antalya – the cultural pearl on the Mediterranean Sea

Your 5-star cultural tour draws to a close today. You can enjoy the comforts of your hotel, chill out at the pool, or ease your muscles with a visit to a traditional Turkish steam bath. National information on Türkiye – Cappadocia

Comparison of temperatures, general note:.

Below is an information overview. The conditions of entry, as well as the political and health situation, can change anywhere in the world at any time. We therefore recommend checking before your trip. Please check the website of the Foreign Office ( www.gov.uk/ ) before your departure.

Form of government:

Republic/Parliamentary Republic, head of state since 27.08.2014 President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Following an official letter submitted to the United Nations by the Republic of Türkiye, the country’s name has been officially changed to Türkiye at the UN.

Islam with a small Christian and Jewish community.

The official language is Turkish. English is often spoken in cities and tourist resorts, as well as German and French.

Subtropical climate along the Aegean Coast and the Mediterranean Sea throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 30°C in the summer to 12–15°C in the winter.

Electricity:

The supply voltage is 220 V, 50 HZ. An adapter is required.

Local time:

The time zone in Türkiye is GMT +3 hours with no daylight saving time. The time difference with Turkey is plus 3 hours in winter and plus 2 hours in summer.

Making telephone calls:

The country code for Türkiye is 0090 with the zero cancelled before the area code. If you are calling the UK from Türkiye, please dial 0044 and the area code without the zero.

Country and people:

Barely any country has a history as rich as Türkiye. Today, Türkiye is a modern democracy where tourism is playing an increasingly important role. A visit to Türkiye has to include a visit to the Turkish bazaars, where you can enjoy their oriental flair. The traditional carpet, jewellery and leather goods stores are long-standing, and in some cases centuries-old elements of the culture of this region. So our trip will also include a jewellery manufacturer, a leather goods store and a modern rug gallery. Here you will learn some fascinating facts about the art of carpet weaving and experience how a hand-woven rug has been made for generations. As part of an interesting demonstration, you‘ll find out more about the preparation of silk threads, the natural dyes used for the wool and the delicate and extremely time-consuming knotting process. You will then have 1 – 2 hours in the various stores and factories to look at the works of art and products for yourself. Bartering is a typical Turkish custom. If you are not interested in buying anything, the traders will also accept a clear no. No bartering takes place in department stores and supermarkets, or at markets where local farmers sell their vegetables. In Türkiye it is customary to give tips. Similarly, to the USA, this forms part of the income for the people working in the service sector. Moreover, it symbolizes recognition for the service provided. One can tip chambermaids £1 to £2 per night. In a restaurant or taxi, tipping around 10% of the billed sum is customary. Tips are not given in shops. On group trips, the suggested sum for a tour guide, could be £2 per person per day. While for bus drivers the appropriate sum is around £1 to £2 per day per person. Of course, everyone may decide for themselves whether and how much tip they wish to give.

Entry requirements for British citizens:

British citizens do not need a visa to enter Türkiye for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period. The Turkish government advises that your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Türkiye and that there is a full blank page for the entry and exit stamps. Nationals of other countries are advised to inquire at the Turkish Embassy about the entry requirements applicable to them. Customers are reminded that it is their sole responsibility to make sure that passport and visa entry requirements for the country or countries that they are visiting are satisfied and we cannot be responsible for any problems encountered (whether at any point of entry or elsewhere) in the event that passport and visa requirements are not satisfied. Regulations in respect of passport and visa requirements for Türkiye are the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye (“MFA”) whose website is at www.mfa.gov.tr .

Tour guides:

Your expert tour guides will be able to provide you with detailed information about the country, people, history, culture, etc., and offer advice and assistance for organising your trip. They can also help with room allocation and look forward to welcoming you with initial information. Here you will find out all you need to know and useful information about the trip. We have put together a varied programme including numerous highlights, enabling you to experience the culture and diversity of landscape that the country has to offer, and learn all about Türkiye and its people.

Additional packages:

Currency/banks/credit cards:.

Since 1 January 2009, the currency is once again called the Turkish lira (TRY). Exchange rate (as of August 2023): 1 GBP = 34 TRY; 1 TRY = 0.02 GBP. Money can be exchanged at banks during opening hours. Another option to change currency is offered at larger hotels. Bank opening hours: Mon – Fri from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., 1.30 to 5.30 p.m. Cash can be withdrawn from cash machines using established international credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express; the usage of debit cards is only possible with some machines. Credit cards are usually also accepted in the larger hotels, various shops and international car rental offices. ATTENTION: Caution is advised when paying with a bank or credit card, as criminals may be trying to copy the traveller’s bank card and obtain the relevant PIN code without being noticed to then be able to withdraw cash from cash machines with fake cards. Travellers are therefore advised to keep an eye on their bank card when paying with it and to enter their PIN number with discretion. Care should be taken when using the bank and credit cards with the PIN code in exchange offices too.

Documentation is required for purchases made in Türkiye. Otherwise, the following goods per person may by carried upon entry into Türkiye (does not apply to transit travellers): personal belongings as items for personal use, incl. medical articles (devices) and medicine as well as giftware to a value of 230 GBP (children under 15 years of age up to 110 GBP). Important: If you’re travelling to Great Britain from outside the UK, your personal allowances mean you can bring in a certain amount of goods without paying tax or duty. If you go over your allowances you must declare all your goods and pay tax and duty on all the goods in that category. Please inform yourself about the current customs regulations: www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/arriving-in-Great-Britain

Safety information specific to Türkiye:

British citizens wishing to stay in or travel to Türkiye are generally recommended to keep an eye on the security situation, these travel and safety instructions and on reports in the media. Groups of people gathering, including on public squares and in front of tourist attractions, as well as hanging around near government and military buildings should be avoided. Following the failed violent attempted coup, there have been isolated incidents of aggressive attacks by followers of certain political parties on people with supposedly different views. We strongly recommend remaining vigilant for such escalations, distancing yourself from the situation as quickly as possible and finding a secure location.

Special criminal provisions:

The purchase, possession and export of “cultural and natural properties” is severely punished (prison sentence of up to 10 years), as these properties are regarded as state-owned assets. In case of violation, several months of custody and high bail fees (currently approx. 7,000 GBP) are common procedure for tourists, too, even if they hold antiques or old objects of supposed small value. In individual cases, prison sentences are imposed. You are therefore urgently warned not to acquire or take along antiques, old coins, fossils, etc. from retailers. It is strongly advised against making political statements in public against the Turkish state or expressing sympathy with terrorist organisations.

Medical information:

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on the TravelHealthPro website ( https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries ). Each countryspecific page has information on vaccine recommendations, any current health risks or outbreaks, and factsheets with information on staying healthy abroad. Caution is advised when eating uncooked food, unpasteurised milk (e.g. fresh milk, ice cream) and fruit that can’t be peeled. Please avoid drinking tap water and ice cubes in drinks! Rule of thumb: don’t eat anything that cannot be cooked or peeled! In Türkiye, pharmacies are found at every turn. They are recognised by their green cross and the “Eczane” inscription. The standard is high, the personnel fully trained. Especially in those regions in which tourism flourishes, English-speaking staff are the norm. Most of the medicines that require prescription in the United Kingdom, are also available in Türkiye by prescription only. The handling is somewhat more “relaxed”, though. Hospitals and a number of medical practices are found in every larger city and in the touristic regions; usually only community hospitals are based in smaller towns and villages. Make sure you have private travel health insurance. Such policies usually also offer benefits not covered by state health insurance companies, e.g. the costs of repatriation. Please note that the excursions are accessible by foot only and that the buses used for the roundtrip are not customised to transport wheelchairs or similar devices. Customers must ensure that they are in good physical and mental health in line with the trip in question. Customers must enquire about the physical mobility and psychological autonomy required for this trip.

After a great holiday in China last year

The cultural trip to Morocco was spoilt by the poor quality of the hotels provided. The brochure assured us of 4 or 5 star hotels with our gourmet package. Hotels were at the best struggling to meet 3 to 4 star. RSD still insist on dragging us to Carpet, leather and jewellery outlets under the guise of showing cultural experience but are really only doing a hard sell. Please make these optional and let us see more of the real Morocco. We were very lucky in having an exceptional guide and driver. Come on RED make a few improvements and get to a 4 star review.

Not sure I'll be using RSD again

Not sure I'll be using RSD again. I tried to book RSD's Cyprus trip. The initial email was cheaper than their invoice. It wasn't a great deal of money and would have happily paid the extra, but worth pointing out. Such an unpleasant experience when I queried the discrepancy. I've decided to cancel. Very difficult to feel confident travelling with a company, especially during these difficult times, if this is their level of customer service.

RSD Crete 5* cultural tour

Crete 5* cultural tour 1st hotel, rep and guide great. 2nd hotel santa marina a shock... not 4* very tired, lots of health and safety issues and manager very rude and sour. Food mediocre. Such a shame as not 'our dream hotel 'to spending relaxing day off. Minimim cost of additional tour/visit €35. Offered entrance fee of €3 refund against tour scheduled and in contract, but cancelled. Reason given closed tuesday. Most tours have been rescheduled during 5* tour. RSD quote contract etc but hide when you have issue with them:( Shame. Check before you book. They also keep card payment details to collect monies!

Just back from a 2 week break in…

Just back from a 2 week break in Cyprus, one of things on the plus side was only 2 stopovers. Both hotels were OK and our tour guide Deniz was brilliant. The second week the hotel was very good amenities were brilliant along with the food. On the down side it was a a large hotel and the dinner room felt like a cafeteria and you partly lost that camaraderie with your group. The biggest problem was the bar service,it would help I enormously if the tables were numbered so if its not the same waiter he/ she know which table to take the drinks to instead walking endlessly round and to end a bit training where necessary when someone orders a vodka and lemonade and a cognac they don't expect it too come in one class .

A lot of money some of which was pressurised, for me to be ill half the time

Food was mainly inedible, eg bony lamb shanks. All inclusive was anything but. It gave a short list of free activities and a long list of charges to pay. These included, fresh orange juice any canned drinks, table tennis etc. The free drinks were obviously chosen for the cheapest wine and I couldn't finish them. I got food poisoning from the fish and ended up in hospital for an hour and a bill of 740 euros. The hotel recep. Called me mistaken even though I was violently sick on the same evening.

Would give 0 if able

Would give 0 if able If you have no issues, 4 of the 6 holidays we have had with them were excellent, reps, hotels and tour. BUT when there is a problem ZERO interest, North Cyprus last year, Croatia this year = abysmal and ZERO interest from "customer service" appalling reps that their manager actively defends!! appalling hotels/food/bar service that they claim they will react to "if able" I have informed them, and that we will not be travelling again = ZERO interest. STAY CLEAR.

This was our second RSD trip

This was our second RSD trip. First Nov 2022 to Cappadocia and April 2023 to North Cyprus. We have been blessed with 2 brilliant tour guides: Kadir in Turkey and Yusuf in Cyprus. Both very knowledgeable, caring, helpful and instructive. Not pushy! We had early starts in the first week, visiting various sites: monasteries, churches, a mosque, the Ghost Village (very sad) and most enjoyable a village visit where we made bread, sampled the local produce of cheese, olive oil, carob syrup; and also able to view and meet some of the animals on the farm. We needed the second week in a superb beach hotel! The staff were outstanding, the all inclusive package included real cocktails (not just local ones).

RSD holiday to Rhodes & Turkey

We have been on several RSD holidays and are well aware that visits to various retailers is a prerequisite. Having said that we have not had a bad experience across holidays in Crete, India, Croatia, Turkey and Rhodes. Our latest trip to Rhodes in October included the free extra seven days. We were concerned what hotel we would get, but we need not have worried. The Rodos Palace was an excellent base for the week. It is a local 5 star hotel. Rooms were very spacious and well appointed with reasonable WiFi. Located a comfortable one hour walk from the old town or a short €9 taxi ride, it was a good location. The beach across the road was also very accessible. The extra week did not include for food and drink, but the all inclusive package sold by RSD was good value for money. Food in the hotel was plentiful and generally of a good standard. The drinks available under the package were a bit limited, but still good value.

Discriminatory rip offs

Their trips are excellent value for money but only if you travel as a pair. On many of their trips the cost for one person to travel is more expensive than the (combined) cost of two people travelling. They currently have a trip to Cyprus where one person pays £418 but the cost for two people is £378 (or £189 each). The companies costs for 1 person travelling is less than the cost for 2 but they are charging more. There is no justification for this. It's discrimination.

In Montenegro at the moment

In Montenegro at the moment, I can honestly say one of the worst experiences I have ever had.At the the Pearl resort which it definitely is not a pearl. Described as a luxury week with gourmet package at 250 euros extra which for the food provide is a total rip off. The whole place is shut down and in the middle of building sites. Amenities consist of a freezing cold indoor pool and an unusable gym. There is an outdoor pool but due to the weather not in use. Got a kettle for the room when requested. Dogs and cats roaming all over the resort including the restaurant under the tables where we are sitting and flies and wasps everywhere. Food always cold and very little variety and several travellers including myself have had days confined to their rooms with diarrhoea. The beach is barely a beach and is strewn with rubbish. I went to North Cyprus with RSD last year which was so good I decided to travel again with you. There is no option to attach photos which I would like to have done so. No option to review less than 1 star unfortunately

A very good trip Ideal for those…

A very good trip Ideal for those wanting to see the main sights in the north part of the island. The last hotel was a bit isolated with not much option to walk or go to local island life without more expense. As extras you are taken to Jewellery, Carpet and Leather warehouses. The gold is some three times the price of local Jewellery, shops and is accompanied with hard sell tactics, use the the local gold shops to at least get a bas figure for what you want.

A positive experience

We travelled to Croatia, Montenegro in November not sure what to expect as reviews seemed to be mixed. We were pleasantly surprised, our guide Suat was amazing, the hotels on route were generally good, some were very good. We saw some interesting places along the way. Yes we were taken to carpet and jewellery factories, a bit of enthusiastic selling but easy to withdraw from. All in all, happy with our 2 week break in November.

Where do I start from wrong information…

Where do I start from wrong information of plane terminal despite my checking 3 times on their recorded calls costing us extra at rebooked lounge, Our first week a rep that had commission of everything from water supplies to over priced meals ,that doesn’t include leather , jewellery and carpet outlets with hard sale and his own exchange rate for Turkish lira , He was totally disinterested in taking us round sites after day 1 We had info from RSD re meal options for 2nd week which we were advised could be ordered on arrival at hotel , instead our rep told us this needed to be booked the day earlier and at twice the price each , Dumped at hotel at 10am and advised no booking in until 2pm and no drinks until midday despite having all inclusive package Our first experience disappointing

Been on 2 Turkey tours 1 both had excellent guides, busy itineraries, up at 5.30am departing 7.30am a few times, worth it to see so much. Large smart hotels, huge choice buffet meals, interesting people to meet. Go to Turkey see amazing historic sites and landscapes.

We went on a cultural trip to Crete in…

We went on a cultural trip to Crete in March. There were lots of irritants but my main complaint was about the high pressurised selling at the carpet/leather/jewellery factories. In particular the jewellery factory I had to keep saying no for 20 minutes by the sales person & her manager. Each visit was a minimum of 2 hours with the exits carefully concealed. The guide was very knowledgeable but he also majored on the fact that our trip was being subsidised by the Greek government so tourist would spend in local industries. Needless to say this was not mentioned. The first hotel and staff was excellent but the second one - the staff were rude both at the desk and in the restaurant and were vert unhelpful. I did write an extensive feedback form and sent it to the company to get a very bland letter saying very little of substance. Won't ever travel with this company again.

I’m due to go on an eight day trip to the Cappadocia. Trying to get information out of this company has been very difficult. My friend is now not going there’s been an issue so I am left to go alone. I’ve been trying to find out which hotels are we staying at. I’ve been told abruptly on two occasions that I will know when I arrive. I do not consider this to be satisfactory as I’m going to be alone traveller and apparently according to the information I now have the group will be split up and going to different hotels. So I’ve no idea where I’m going to be or who I’m going to be weird. I would like to know if anybody has done this trip and how they found it

Well done, RSD Travel

My compliments to RSD Travel for acting so swiftly when our holiday to Croatia was cancelled due to COVID-19. Reading in the papers about how some holiday-makers are being treated by some travel companies made us wonder on when we would receive our credit. But no, RSD said they would credit us by a certain date, and actually the money was in our account several days before. Will we book again with RSD - of course we will!!

Croatia, Montenegro & Bosnia

Good trip, with the usual stops for carpets, jewellery etc - you know the score. One very nice and fancy hotel but in the main, most hotels are pretty basic, slightly better than Travelodge but this could be because these were the best that they had. Top Tip: Especially for Brits - kettles and tea & coffee are NOT provided in 99% of the hotel rooms; appears that this is just not the done thing so bring your travel kettle and teas & coffees if you want an early morning cuppa or a drink before bed. Also, in almost all the stops, food was reasonably readily available so no real need to go for their evening meals, which I think are a bit on the pricey side.

RSD TO REIMBURSE WITHIN 28 DAYS-THAT'S GOOD.

I read with interest RSD's reply (19hours ago-Thursday 30.4.20 16.00 hours) to the recent complaint of No contact-no service. We too were due to go on holiday to Croatia on Sunday 26 April last but had it cancelled by RSD. We have travelled with RSD on a number of occasions now and have quite enjoyed them. Although I'm sure many people, like myself are sympathetic to RSD's problems due to the virus. What has let the company down quite badly is the complete lack of communication with its customers. I have received one letter confirming the cancellation, that's all. When I have managed to speak to staff on the telephone they have been most unhelpful and bordering on being rude. The message on the RSD website is old news now and very much needs updating. It is good that in the reply that I mention above RSD state their intention is to reimburse customers within 28 days. I will hold them to that!

RSD IS EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY

We have been with RSD twice and the experience was EXCELLENT value for money. I cannot understand what the whingers expect for the price they paid for a 7 day holiday with flights, trips, accommodation and breakfast included. This a grea, cheap way to have a well conducted cultural trip around fascinating areas of the world. My advice. Go for it, don’t expect anything much for the price an be pleasantly surprised. DONT go if you are not physically fit. Lots of walking over terrain which is not always flat

Excellent response re: cancelled holiday. This year would have been our second trip with RSD Travel, the first was to Turkey, it was an excellent experience. This year because of Covid 19 our trip to Croatia in April had to be cancelled. RSD Travel have been in touch and informative as to how this was being handled. This week we received our full refund this week, no deduction for administration, and no problems in obtaining it. We will definitely be booking again.

Three great holidays.

I have used RSD three times and had a great holiday on each occasion. The holidays were excellent value in good to excellent hotels. You have to bear on mind that you will have three visits to out of town warehouses that will try to flog you handmade carpets, silver and leather. If you don't want to buy, you can go off to the coffee shop and wait for the others. The guides have been good and the hotel food excellent.

Superb customer service

RSD cancelled our holiday to Dubai (because of the current Covid situation) on a Monday morning. I got an email the same day to confirm this, asking for my bank details for the refund. The refund was in my bank account the following day. SUPERB customer service, especially when set against another company (JustGo!) who are dragging a refund on for 6 months. Thank you RSD and I will bear this in mind when making further holiday bookings.

I have been on 2 holidays with RSD and have thoroughly enjoyed them. The North Cyprus tour was brilliant. We had an additional 7 days at a 5 star hotel. The hotel was in a remote setting but we actually enjoyed relaxing in such a beautiful setting and the use of the fabulous spa. You are paying a mere pittance to enjoy the holidays they provide. We went on the 7 day tour to Turkey which meant moving from hotel to hotel but we saw some incredible places we would never have visited. The food on the tour to Turkey was not great but the North Cyprus tour was excellent.

My first experience with RSD was to doubt their claims. We now know that they provide wonderful cheap holidays

My first experience with RSD was to Turkey. I was very reluctant to go as it seemed a con. They provided everything in the brochure. Since then I have been to the Cappadocia tour, the Northern Cyprus Tour, the Crete Tour and we are booked for the Croatia Tour. We are very surprised that people do not realise that the visits to carpet factories, jewellery stores, leather exhibitions etc. help make our holiday cheaper. We are very happy at the wonderful places we have visited and the high quality hotels where we have enjoyed the facilities and the wonderful food. We cannot understand the reviews that differ from our own.

What a relief to get my refund-thank you

Initially I was very agitated in Feb when I pleaded with RSD Travel to let me cancel my 10 Day trip to Canada starting 21st May, as it clearly was never going to happen. I trust the company will have more foresight in future if they wish to keep a faithful clientele. Eventually the late cancelllation about three weeks before departure, cost me, as my insurance refund is less, but I am delighted to have been refunded EVERY PENNY and thank RSD Travel for this. Now it must work to restore our confidence in their products-I still want to go on that trip and urge the company to find ways of tempting me. Currently I am furious with the travel insurance company which is refunding a derisory amount-in vouchers only. Well done, RSD Travel for compensating me so fairly and promptly once you had notified me. Challenge? Please find a way of getting me to give you 5 stars next time!

Great value , great holiday experience.

Great value for money and you get exactly what is described in the brochure. RSD charter flights with Freebird, some disruption in Antalya for the onward flights (but no fault of RSD), and an English speaking guide on arrival in Cyprus. 4 star hotel for the 1st week, with buffet breakfast - optional evening buffet (which we declined) and ate out locally. Great value and easy to find local restaurants. Great choice of included tours, with the obligatory visits to a leather, carpet and jewellery factory - all known about in advance, but still very pushy ! Tour guide was ok, but obviously on commission for sales of optional tours, food packages and purchases at outlets. 2nd week relaxing at a 5 star hotel on the beach, breakfast included. A very busy hotel, but plenty of room to sunbathe around the pools and beach areas. Optional evening meal and drinks package, which we again declined - ate out to support local businesses. Overall very good value. A lovely holiday experience, lovely scenery, great friendships, - but read the brochure carefully to ensure you know what you are signing up to, and you won't be disappointed.

We were due to travel to Cyprus on 29th…

We were due to travel to Cyprus on 29th April. I had contacted them in March to check that the trip would still go ahead and I was told that it certainly would. On April 7th I received a phone call to notify me my trip was cancelled and offering me a credit note/voucher which I declined, requesting a refund. On the 9th April I received an email verifying the cancellation. After much tooing and froing with emails I eventually managed to get a reply saying that yes I could have a refund but it would not even be considered until 28 days after the DEPARTURE date. That is 50 days in total which even in these times I find unacceptable. I have not heard from them since so I am now going to ask my credit card to process a chargeback. This hardly inspires customer confidence. Communication is lacking on a grand scale In response to RSD, and this is not the place for ongoing comunication, We have communicated extensivelyto no avail

Lovely holiday in Rhodes and Turkey

We’re almost a week back from our Rhodes and the Aegean holiday and keep wishing we were back there. We were the first RSD holiday to Rhodes after a 7 year break, and it’s fair to say the first week was a bit chaotic due to the newness of the holidays on Rhodes. It did seem that the hotels were taken by surprise by our large group, hence some initials complaints. However, overall, we had a lovely holiday. We enjoyed the variety of the tour week, with time in Turkey which was great. Some teething problems with the boarding on the Katamaran and customs which delayed us, but hopefully these will be sorted for others. Hotels, except for the first one, we’re all very good and food in our holiday week was lovely. For the amount we pay, even going all inclusive on the second week, we can’t fault these holidays. Sometimes you have a good room, sometimes not as good, but that’s part of the holiday in our opinion. If we wanted the full 4/5 star experience then we wouldn’t book RSD, but we like their business model of supporting the local economies out of season and we were very happy with our holiday.

Hoping you survive this pandemic.

My friend and I were to travel to Morocco on19th March 2020 and return on April 1st, but of course, it was cancelled due to Coronavirus. I have been given a full refund byRSD which I received about May 11th. Not a rapid response but in reasonable time and with no procrastinations. ( I am still waiting for refunds from other companies - who are not being helpful.) We look forward to travelling with them again hopefully in 2021 as we have another trip already booked with them. We are always pleased with this company we have had some lovely and well priced holidays with RSD and made some very good friendships. We hold them in high regard and hope they survive this awful situation.
