Best apps to track visited countries and cities on map

Travelers often look for an app that helps them make a list of countries they have visited. If the list is really impressive, it is very difficult to list these countries. It is impossible to list them from memory as well.

I myself often use such apps to structure information about my own travels and to keep up to date with what countries I have yet to visit.

There are travel tracking apps for both Android and iOS. Using them you can:

  • make a list of places you've visited,
  • compose a wishlist of countries to visit or where you really want to go,
  • to track visited countries on mobile phones.

However, it can be not only a list of countries, but also of states or individual regions.

Most visited countries' apps are free to use. On the other hand, some apps offer a number of interesting features in the pro version.

So, let's take a look at the mobile apps and focus on the most interesting features that will be useful to avid travelers. I tested all the apps myself, so you can trust the information presented here.

World Traveller

Countries been, scratch - where i've been, visited cities, findpenguins, what is the best app to track visited countries.

World Traveller is an app designed for travelers, facilitating the tracking of visited places and offering insightful facts about each country. It keeps statistics on all trips made by the user and is exclusively available for Android.

travel marker app

  • Details on visa requirements for each country.
  • Comprehensive offline database on countries, including population, currency, and passport comparisons.
  • Ability to mark cities on planned itineraries and future visits.
  • Social network integration for accessing information across devices.
  • Profile creation for storing and sharing travel statistics.
  • Search function for viewing and connecting with other users' travel statistics.

To show countries and places you've been:

  • Select your country of primary residence.
  • A list of all countries will open. The app will ask you to mark the regions you visited.
  • On the world map, flags will indicate the countries where the traveler has already been. Additionally, a more detailed map with cities is available.
  • To add a country or city tap on its name.
  • There are several options for marking - for example, favorite or "would like to visit".

I have mixed impressions after using the World Traveller app. The interface is simple and intuitive. Features such as statistics tracking, passport and currency converter are available here. There are even several passport options for citizens of two countries. A dark mode is offered as a design theme.

I liked some of the app's features - the ability to track visited states in the US, as well as the visa verification tool.

However, there are a number of drawbacks. One of the main problems is the inability to manually mark a place on the map, and you can't do it with search either. Although the developer mentioned that this feature has not been removed, I was unable to access it, which frustrated me.

Another drawback, in my opinion, was the lack of separate regions and territories. The app doesn't allow for detailed tracking of places like Scotland, as these countries don't have their own flags. Also, the categorization of countries and territories sometimes seems awkward: for example, Puerto Rico was listed as a country, which did not correspond to its actual political status.

Overall, World Traveller has the potential to become my primary travel app due to its extensive features and user-friendly interface. A more accurate display of territories on the map and the ability to mark places manually would enhance the usability of World Traveller.

The app creates a map of cities you visited. It also allows you to generate a personalized map of the world, which will display all the cities and countries visited by the user. You can view the created map and mark visited places, make beautiful lists and infographics.

travel marker app

  • Personal travel map creation.
  • Capability to track cities, areas, and countries visited.
  • Progress sharing with friends.
  • Quick access to information for trip planning.

travel marker app

To create a map of visited countries using Countries Been app:

  • Step 1 . After the first launch, the app will ask the user to log in. A quick login via Google, Facebook or email is available.

travel marker app

Step 2 . You can log in as a guest to get acquainted with the app features. If you sign in as a guest, the app will warn you that all the data you entered may not be saved.

Step 3 . On the globe, select the country you have visited or plan to visit in the future.

Step 4 . In addition, you will need to download data about a particular area from the network to your phone.

Step 5 . Check one of the places - you live in, visited or plan to visit.

Step 6 . Depending on the status, the country or city will be colored green, purple or yellow.

Step 7 . The information will also be added to the special list.

travel marker app

I've been using this app for about a year now, and overall I really like it. It has become my second tool for keeping track of all the places I have visited, as well as those on my wishlist.

However, when using Countries Been, I have noticed a few drawbacks. First, the map may look less populated when the states feature is activated. I think it would be great if when activating the states feature, the app could fill the entire country in faded color and the visited states in full color.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to be able to color the countries I "want to visit" in different colors compared to the countries I've "been to" and "lived in".

Including controversial or less recognized regions, such as Transnistria or Abkhazia, would also increase the usefulness of the app, given the variety of places travelers visit.

In addition, the app could benefit from more detailed categorization within larger countries and more intuitive user interaction, such as easier tracking and listing of places visited without having to navigate through all the countries in the world.

Any locality, down to small villages, can be added to the base of the app, but I believe that Countries Been could use a more standardized approach to listing. Also missing is the ability to add personal notes or categories for places visited.

In conclusion, the app does a great job. Adding a regionalization feature, a little better navigation and adding notes would improve the usability of Countries Been.

travel marker app

The Scratch app allows you not only to make lists of places you've visited, but also to plan trips and make personalized maps. You can easily track your travels on the customizable world map.

Scratch core features:

  • You can mark cities, countries and states on the map. The result will be formed as a beautiful map that you can share online with friends.
  • Curated lists - if you have no idea where to go next time, explore the lists of other Scratch users. Photos, text notes, and maps with interesting locations are available.
  • Memories - you can add photos and videos associated with the trip to the map. All the information is easy to arrange as a timeline - a sequence of events. It is especially convenient if you have visited several interesting places in the country.
  • Maps can be easily adapted to your taste - if you do not like the colors, the design, it is easy to change it.

One of the key features is the ability to mark the countries I've already visited, the ones I want to visit, and the places I've lived. Adding memories and photos to each place visited is a great feature that turns the app into not just a tracking app, but a personal travel diary.

However, there are a few points where I think the app could be improved. The app determined my citizenship based on my current location. This led to inaccuracies regarding visa requirements. Users should be allowed to manually select their citizenship.

The app's monetization strategy of requiring payment to unlock cities and other features seems limiting. It's understandable that developers need to generate revenue, but more flexibility or a lower price could make these premium features more attractive.

Uploading photos and memories can be difficult, especially without the batch simplified process of adding multiple items at once. Those travelers who have travel galleries consisting of thousands of photos know what I mean.

Overall, this app is fine with me. With a little tweaking in features and pricing strategy, I think it could be a great tool for world travelers.

ZDNET's recommendations are based on many hours of testing, research, and comparison shopping. The best trip planner apps to make your travels easier

Booking a trip can be an exciting yet daunting task. As if booking airfare, hotel, and transportation weren't enough, you also need to consider food, sights, and attractions. As a travel lover myself, I often dread planning and preparing for a trip. Not only do I never have the time, but I often get oversaturated by the vast amount of information found online and the fear of getting scammed.

Also:  The best travel credit cards

Over the years, I've found the best websites and apps to help smooth out the planning process. These apps help me keep track of all my reservations, send me booking reminders, and guarantee I always find the best prices -- because there is nothing worse than falling for tourist traps or overpriced offerings.

Whether you are a spontaneous or a nitty-gritty planner traveler, ZDNET has tested and reviewed the best trip planner apps on the market. Our top pick for the best trip planner site and app is Booking.com due to its easy-to-use user interface, extensive booking capabilities, and pricing. However, since not every trip or traveler is the same, we've included several options to help you plan and stay organized during your travels.

The best trip planner apps of 2023

Booking.com, best overall trip planner.

  • Multiple bookings
  • Great deals
  • Can earn points from bookings and reservations
  • Easy to use
  • No group planning
  • Can't organize bookings per trip

Booking.com features:   Platform: App and website |  Compatibility:  iOS and Android |  Pricing:  Free |  Booking:  Yes |  Group planning:  No

When planning my trips, I always make a stop at the Booking.com app, especially when reserving hotels. I find their user interface visually appealing and easy to use, and that it provides just the right amount of information I need when scrolling through hotel suggestions. Personally, I enjoy that I can add my top picks to my favorites with a quick tap of a heart, glance through reviews, look at cancellation policies, and even find out how far away hotels are from key spots. Through Booking.com, you can also book flights, car rentals, taxis, and city attractions, making it a great all-in-one place to plan and book upcoming weekend getaways or longer vacations. While I have personally never used the car rentals, taxis, or city attractions components of the app, I enjoy knowing that if I ever needed to, I can quickly hop on my phone and glance at the latest offerings.

My favorite feature when using Booking.com to plan trips is the offers and promotions it displays for users. In the app, when you click your profile, you can see your "Genius" loyalty program status as well as discover the best deals around the world for your specific chosen dates. My only critique of Booking.com is that it does not enable group trip planning or let you organize your bookings per trip. This means if you are planning a trip with a friend, only one person can book and have access to reservations.

Best trip planner for organization

  • Synced with e-mail inbox
  • Organizes reservations no matter where you book
  • Works offline
  • Can't make any bookings
  • Need to pay for advanced features
  • UI could use an upgrade

TripIt features:   Platform:  App and website |  Compatibility: iOS and Android | Pricing: Free or $49 per year | Booking: No | Group planning: Yes

In terms of planning a trip, creating an itinerary, and keeping all your information in one place, TripIt is one of the best travel apps to keep yourself organized. When you first create an account, TripIt will sync with your inbox and automatically add all of your upcoming flights and reservations to your account. You can then modify each trip to include as little or as much information as you'd like. As someone who likes to be spontaneous when traveling, I usually only add the essentials: flight information, hotel reservations, and important documents. However, if you like to plan your trips down by the hour, you can also include activities, restaurant reservations, transportation, and more in your trip plan to share with fellow travelers.

As your trip approaches, TripIt will also send you packing reminders, give you COVID-19 travel guidance, and show transportation options. While you can get most of the essential features within the free version of the app (this is the one I use), you can also pay $49 a year to get advanced features such as check-in reminders, real-time flight alerts, point tracking, and even notifications for drops in airfare prices.

Keep in mind that while TripIt gives you transportation options and finds places near your hotel, you cannot book or make any reservations directly from the app. The app is solely used to organize and keep track of all of your travel plans in one place, no matter where you book them.

Best AI trip planner

  • Personalized travel itinerary
  • Hotel booking
  • Can modify recommendations
  • Group planning enabled
  • Only available as a website
  • No flight or restaurant booking

Guide features:   Platform: Website  Compatibility: all major browsers |  Pricing:  Free | Booking: Yes, but hotels only | Group Planning: Yes  Generative AI is everyone's favorite buzzword this year, and slowly but surely, it has been making its way across all industries -- including the travel industry. Guide is an innovative AI travel planning tool that creates personalized travel itineraries based on your preferences. (Full disclosure, it's also owned by ZDNET's sister company. It's currently in private beta, but you can join a wait list.) All you need to do is select your destination, the dates, whether you are traveling alone or in a group, your budget, and the types of activities you are looking for, and Guide will do the planning.

After generating a trip itinerary for you based on your prompt, Guide then lets you modify and customize the itinerary to your liking. I recently used Guide to plan a six-day trip to Austin, Texas, and this was the feature I enjoyed the most, since I had specific restaurants and activities I wanted to incorporate into my trip, but I also needed some additional recommendations. While you can't book flights or restaurant reservations through Guide, you can book and find great hotel deals powered by Expedia on the platform.

Guide will also give you an overall budget for your trip, a packing list, and a comprehensive list of things to know about your destination -- which may be helpful for some more than others. While my trip to Austin was a solo trip, Guide has a feature where you can invite other fellow travelers to collaborate in planning your trip through Guide's chatbot, GuideBot. This chatbot also works sort of like ChatGPT, where you can ask GuideBot questions about your trip, your destination, or recommendations. Keep in mind you can not ask GuideBot to directly modify your trip for you, and instead need to manually do it yourself -- believe me, I tried.

Tripadvisor

Best trip planner app for reviews.

  • Countless reviews
  • Used by travelers worldwide
  • Variety of information
  • Booking capabilities
  • Great for local spots
  • Booking is not its strongest feature and you may not always find the best deals
  • Doesn't vet reviews

Tripadvisor  features: Platform:  App and website |  Compatibility:  iOS and Android |  Pricing:  Free |  Booking:  Yes |  Group planning:  No

Reading customer reviews is one of the most important steps when planning a trip. While you shouldn't base all of your decisions on reviews, you should consider past customer experiences to get a feel for the brand and company you are about to trust, or the experience you are going to pay for.  When it comes to travel reviews, Tripadvisor is the best trip planner app to rely on. Since the platform has so many reviews for restaurants, activities, accommodations, and locations all over the world, it is always easy and convenient to log onto the app or website to help you make an educated decision. (However, remember that not all Tripadvisor reviews are legit, since the platform does not independently verify customer postings.) Beyond reviews, TripAdvisor also lets you book hotels, restaurants, things to do, and more while also providing detailed insights into their offerings -- including cancellation policies, ratings, and features.

Tripadvisor's "Travelers' Choice" best-of list is also a popular part of its platform, allowing visitors to see top-rated destinations, hotels, restaurants, and things to do around the world. With Tripadvisor, you can plan a trip yourself from scratch, hire a trip designer, or get a custom itinerary built by AI.

Best trip planner app for transportation

  • Great multi-mode travel comparison
  • convenient and seamless transportation booking
  • Multiple currency and language availability
  • Flight deals and suggestions are not the strongest
  • Limited offers depending on the country or city of travel
  • Not the most reliable customer service

Omio features:  Platform:  App and website |  Compatibility:  iOS and Android |  Pricing:  Free |  Booking:  Yes, transportation only |  Group planning:  No

I first discovered Omio when a friend recommended it to me while I was studying abroad in Spain, and ever since I downloaded it, it has become my go-to app for booking the best deals and fares on transportation within Europe. The concept behind Omio is simple: You plug in your departure and arrival location, including the number of people you are traveling with, and add whether you are looking for a one-way or round-trip journey. Omio will then show you the best deals by train, bus, or plane to and from your desired destination, including how much time each option will take you and the number of stops.

The German-based travel booking site is great at aggregating travel information from multiple sites, allowing you to view all of your transportation options in one place. This is incredibly beneficial when planning trips within Europe since there are several ways you can cross each border and often various languages and regulations to keep in mind. Omio is set in English but has multiple additional languages available, as well as currency options. During my time abroad, I solely used Omio to book all of my transportation, including planning a 17-day trip across seven different European countries. Overall, using Omio was not only convenient and seamless but also helped me save hundreds of dollars by helping me maximize my travel time by switching between flights, trains, and buses.

However, since returning from Europe, I have not used Omio as much as I thought I would -- maybe because I have a car and take most of my trips by plane. And Omio's flight deals and suggestions are not the strongest compared to Booking.com or Skyscanner's, which heavily focus on flight deals. I have also found they have some limitations depending on the country or city you are traveling in. Be mindful of the deals and tickets you buy through Omio since some tickets are non-refundable, and some customers complain their customer service is not the best -- although I have yet to have any issues with them.

What is the best trip planner app?

Booking.com gets our vote for the best trip planner app due to its wide selection of accommodations, its points and promotions offerings, and its easy-to-use user interface. Not only does Booking.com help you find the best deals throughout your trip, but it will also help you stay organized throughout your trip by keeping all of your reservations in one place. To determine which trip planner app or combination of trip planners is best for you, check out this comparison chart below.

Which is the right trip planner app for you?

The best trip planner app ultimately depends on your travel and planning style. If you like booking and planning everything in one place while also earning points and getting great deals, then Booking.com is your top app. However, if you are looking for a place to keep all of your accommodations, reservations, and activity details organized, then TripIt is a better app for you. Check out the following chart to help you find the best trip planner app or a combination of apps for you to plan your next adventure.

How did we choose these trip planner apps?

To find the best trip planner apps, we drew upon real-life experiences and tested their performance and capabilities during our latest trips. Ultimately, we weighted the following factors when choosing which trip planners to include on our list:

  • Features: Each app can vary significantly with the features it offers, whether it is solely to book flights and hotels, help you plan your next trip using AI, or help you find the best deals and booking information, each app on this list can help you address several common inconveniences that present themselves while planning that next adventure.
  • Compatibility: An app is of little use if it does not work with your devices, so we look to see what compatibility each trip-planning app offers and which platforms you can access it from. Personally, I enjoy apps that combine an app and website component since this quickly helps me switch between my wide computer screen and my tiny yet portable iPhone screen.
  • Customer reviews: We study real customer reviews and ratings to evaluate customer satisfaction and service. This is incredibly important since most times when you travel, you visit an unknown city or country, and you should be mindful of past experiences others have had.
  • Cost : Most trip planner apps are free, but you may have to upgrade to receive special access to exclusive features or deals. If your app is already free, it means you only have to pay a small amount (often unnoticeable) when you book your accommodations.

What is a trip planner app?

A trip planner app is an app that provides organizational features for your upcoming trip. It is often free and incorporates trip planning tools, whether you are traveling by ground, water or air.

How does a trip planner app work?

A trip planner app can incorporate special features, like an itinerary, calendar, reservation and booking hub, and map assistance. Depending on the app you choose, there is even trip-sharing with friends and family to simplify the entire trip planning process.

How much does a trip planner app cost?

Most trip planner apps are free, but some may offer in-app purchases to upgrade or enhance your experience. Within this list, only Tripit costs money, but only for their advanced features version, which costs $49 a year. However, you can get access to most if not all, trip-planning features, through their free version.

Are there alternative trip planner apps worth considering?

As I mentioned earlier, trip planning heavily depends on your personal style of travel and preferences. However, whether you like to plan your trips down by the minute or prefer to just have the basics, there are several apps that can optimize your planning. Here are a few apps worth considering that almost made it onto our list:

10 Apps That Will Make The Most Of Your Vacation In 2024

I f you've ever spent time at a networking event, made small talk at your kids' soccer games, or scrolled through a dating app, you'll know that "travel" is something almost everyone will tell you they enjoy. Couple that with an attachment to our smartphones that borders on co-dependent, and it's no surprise to learn that travel apps are a hot commodity. Some of the best innovations in travel come in the form of apps. Staying in touch with people at home, travel planning, staying organized on the road, or connecting with other travelers? Not only is there an app for that, there are many apps for that.

To help you sort through the plethora of what's out there, here are some travel-ready apps to make your vacation a blast. We've sourced suggestions from people who travel for a living and those who leave their local area only rarely, so no matter how often you jet-set, there is an app for you.

If your cell plan doesn't include international roaming, you can get slammed with steep fees for using mobile data outside your own country.

There are a few ways to get around roaming charges, including buying a local SIM card for the country you are traveling in, using a Wi-Fi stick , or investing in a dual SIM phone, like those from Samsung, Apple, or Google. One of the easiest and cheapest options though, is an eSIM app like Airalo . Airalo was one of the first in the eSIM game and continues to be popular with travelers. Fans of the app point to how easy it is to download and get started quickly, and how much it saves in fees. On the other hand, some users have noticed a discrepancy in how well it works in different countries. One reviewer on TrustPilot states "We do NOT recommend this plan given the extremely poor performance in Vietnam" despite noting excellent service in Hong Kong.

Airalo is a paid service, available on the App Store and on Google Play.

Google Maps is often the default app travelers reach for when navigating new territory. It's a trusted resource for a lot of reasons, including the ease of finding reviews and info for even very small businesses. But it's not the only map app out there, nor is it the best in every situation. The main advantage of Maps.me over Google Maps is that it is based on user-generated information. Particularly for folks who are getting around on foot, this "boots on the ground" approach is excellent and more direct than reporting problems to Google Maps . It also means that if you find a cool place on your travels and want to make sure other travelers can find it, you can add it to a map.

Like Google Maps and other useful way-finding apps, you can download maps and bookmark points of interest for offline use, although the background information on locations is not as robust as on Google Maps. Maps.me also allows you to access various modes of transportation while offline, which Google doesn't.

Maps.me is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Cash's position as king is increasingly precarious. On your travels, you'll find cashless options in places you might not expect. The mass availability of mobile payment platforms like Square means you may be able to whip out your phone or card at Swiss coffee carts or Mexican street vendors. Wise (formerly Transferwise) lets you move between currencies seamlessly. Wise lets you operate in 40 currencies, which is particularly handy if you are traveling to several different countries. They advertise charges that are less than the major banks. However, some users have complained about complications with money transfers, so be forewarned if you intend to use this app for sending money.

Of note to travelers is the option to get an actual bank card that can function as an international debit card with a nominal conversion fee (not all bank cards can pay by debit in countries other than your home base.) Or, save a step and scan your phone to pay from your Wise account.

Wise is available on the App Store and from Google Play. There is no charge to download the app, but fees are charged for some banking activities.

If you are going to be traveling from place to place on your vacation, you will want the Rome2Rio app on your phone. Enter your destination and departure location, and the app spits out the options and approximate costs for each leg of your journey. For instance, if you are in Edmonton, Canada, and want to get to the Thai island of Ko Yao Yai, the app will suggest six options, labeling the best, cheapest, and fastest combination of flight, minibus, and ferry. You can't purchase tickets through the app, although there are links to book accommodation that take you to Booking.com. Being able to purchase travel fares through the app would make things easier, especially if they were offered in a package, but the absence of that feature means you can investigate and compare prices from different booking operators , so we are putting it in the win column.

Rome2Rio is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Rick Steves Audio Europe

Rick Steves is recognized as a top voice in travel guides. His down-to-earth approach to travel has endeared multitudes of followers to him, spawning an industry of books, television shows, and a sprawling web presence that features how-to guides, articles, and an active travelers' forum. On top of all that, he has a free app for self-guided walking tours through many of Europe's top sights called Rick Steves Audio Europe . Reviewers of the app give it a high rating (4.7 on Google Play and 4.3 on the App Store) using superlatives like "This app is GOLD," and comparing the quality of the tours to paid audio tours. On the downside, it is difficult to sync the app on multiple devices, so if you are in a group you may all be at slightly different parts of the tour, which can be mildly annoying. There are a bunch of tour sites, with more added periodically.

The audio tours and accompanying maps are downloadable, so you don't need to worry about burning through mobile data or needing to rely on Wi-Fi. Rick Steve Audio Europe is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

How many trips come vividly back to life in your mind just by thinking about that one excellent bowl of Cacio e Pepe pasta or sun-drenched sip of a Paloma? Exploring a place through its flavors and discovering new spots to eat is a beloved part of travel. In Europe, TheFork (the French version is called LaForchette) is the go-to app for crowd-sourced restaurant reviews. Previously, the app also covered Australia, but at the start of 2024, it was announced they will be pulling out of Oz.

You can find Michelin-starred restaurants with months-long wait lists or little hole-in-the-wall spots by searching the name of the eating establishment, the city or neighborhood you want to eat in, or the kind of cuisine you are craving.

The app is worthy of its space on your phone just for the restaurant listings and reviews, but if you want to explore more of the capabilities, there are ways to expand its usefulness. You can make reservations, register to collect points, access discounts and specials at select spots, and pay through the app. TheFork is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Looking for a little love on the road? The Fairytrail app might be the ticket to romance (or ROAMance) you are looking for. Aimed at digital nomads and van life devotees, the app is a nice addition to the dating lives of travelers of all stripes. Members are evaluated and assigned a fairytale character similar to enneagram-slash-Myers-Briggs personality types, which is a new and novel approach compared with other iPhone dating apps or Android dating apps .

Because the app is focused on people with nomadic lifestyles, matches are location-independent. The idea is that users of the app will be willing to travel to each other to meet and date. There is a setting that allows an extra layer of matching: dream places to visit. If you so choose, before chatting with a match you need to have an overlapping "bucket-list" destination. Previously, this was an unavoidable step but became an optional setting after it was changed in response to frustration expressed by reviewers. The app is being redesigned in 2024 and soliciting feedback from users. Stay tuned, it seems more happy endings are in store! Fairytrails is free to download with in-app purchases and is available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Price Scanner And Converter

A very unpleasant aspect of vacationing in another country is coming home to a shocking credit card bill. Part of the problem is the tendency of holidaymakers to spend like money isn't real, but the other problem is how difficult it is to calculate prices into your own currency. Sure, you can come up with shortcuts to do quick math, but that gives you an estimate rather than an exact cost. To help, there are many different currency converter apps out there, with features like real-time rate calculation and offline capability. The somewhat clunky-named Price Scanner and Converter takes it one step further by using your phone's camera to scan prices and display them automatically in your preferred currency (out of 150 global currencies.) New iPhone cameras also have a similar capability, but it isn't as seamless a process as using this app.

This price scanning app isn't presently available on Google Play, although there are similar apps to be found. The reviews are pretty overwhelmingly mediocre, so if you are on team Android, your best bet may be to download a regular currency converter and enter in prices the old-fashioned way.

Downloading the Price Scanner and Converter is free from the App Store.

Searching through your emails for confirmations and itineraries isn't an efficient way to access your travel information. And good luck if you have used your work email for some of your planning and your personal email for others. What if you are offline when you need to find your tour details? Nightmare fuel. Tripit has created a simple user experience, allowing you to forward all those endless travel planning emails to be arranged into an easily accessible itinerary in a single spot, which you can access from any of your devices.

Other features of this include the ability to load PDFs, QR codes, and other travel documents to your Tripit travel folder. There are helpful navigation tools, like airport maps, neighborhood safety ratings, and nearby places. You can share your travel plans and sync them to your calendar. For $49 a year (or a free 30-day trial) you can upgrade to Tripit Pro for enhanced travel aid, including notifications to help keep you on track and on time.

Tripit is free to download from the App Store and from Google Play, and you can upgrade to the premium Tripit Pro on the Tripit website or in the app.

Mobile Passport Control

The latest app from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol goes by the wildly creative name, " Mobile Passport Control ." It's a no-nonsense app with a no-nonsense name that allows users to streamline the customs experience. Rather than filling out declarations forms, users enter their information into the app and send it to border officials so they can access it as soon as they get to customs. You can do this immediately upon arrival, say as your plane is taxiing to the gate.

The app is for United States citizens and Canadians with a B-1 or B-2 visitor visa who are entering the USA at one of 33 American airports, 11 preclearance sites, and four seaports. It works in tandem with your passport, but it doesn't replace it.

As a bonus, some sites allow those with the Mobile Passport Control app to use their own (almost always shorter!) line or expedited Global Entry lines at passport control. You can enter family members on the same app and there is no approval process, just download and go.

A previous iteration of the app had a premium, paid version, but this is no longer the case. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play.

Summer Traveling: Here's how to save on airfare, according to Expedia

travel marker app

The sun is shining and the beaches are calling.

And since searches for summer trips for flights and lodging are up, the countdown to locking in on those summer travel plans with some savings is approaching, according to Expedia.com.

So here's how:

Expedia , the full-service travel brand company, reveals how to save on summer airfare with tips from its Summer Travel Outlook , complete with data compiled from searches of peak travel times from 2023.

"The sweet spot for booking your summer trip is right around the corner, but there's still a bit of time to figure out your vacation plans and lock in those flights at a great rate," says Melanie Fish, head of Expedia Group Brands public relations.

More: These 15 places are the best to visit in New Jersey, according to Travel and Leisure

According to Expedia's Summer Travel Outlook cheat sheet, travelers should follow these steps:

  • Book summer flights 21 to 60 days out. Travelers booking during this window saved around 15% for domestic and international travel last year timeframe.
  • For international flights depart on a Monday. For domestic flights depart on a Tuesday. Travelers saved around 15% compared to those that departed on Thursday and Friday.
  • Choose to fly during mid-to-late August as the summer season slows down. It’s less busy and can yield savings of up to $265 on roundtrip tickets compared to the last week of June when average fares peak.
  • Expedia says travelers can save by bundling their flight, hotel and car rental for a discounted rate.

"The cheat sheet is easy this year — book one to two months out and save around 15%, whether you're taking the family to the beach in Florida or summering in Paris," said Fish.

Kari Lake downplays 1864 abortion law, says Arizonans can travel '3 hours' for procedure

travel marker app

Senate candidate Kari Lake indistinctly linked illegal immigration to the climbing cost of housing in Arizona at a Tuesday morning campaign event that veered into higher-profile policy issues, including Lake’s shifting rhetoric on abortion.

Lake, the Republican Senate primary front-runner, seemed to downplay Arizona's recently upheld strict 1864 abortion ban by telling people "you can go three hours that way, three hours that way, and you're going to be able to have an abortion."

Lake was scheduled to discuss housing affordability alongside Jason Mitchell, a real estate broker.

In recent years, the already-rising cost of housing in Arizona has sharply increased. In 2022, the state had the 18th highest "housing wage" needed to rent a two-bedroom apartment. In 2023, it jumped to number 12, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s latest “Out of Reach” report .

Lake gestured broadly to the issue of illegal immigration, the linchpin of her campaign, to explain that trend.

“We don't have enough housing for the people who are here. Now we've got 9 to 12 million. That adds additional stress to the system,” Lake said to dozens of people at Mitchell’s office in Scottsdale, referring to the estimated number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

Immigration is among the factors that can influence the price of housing in U.S. cities. Economists disagree about why housing is so expensive, but many view shortages in the housing supply or corporate ownership of the housing stock as the greatest contributing factors.

In an interview before the event, Mitchell said he doesn’t believe that illegal immigration is driving up the cost of buying a home. He said it’s plausible that immigrants are driving up the cost of renting because they, like other occupants, eat into the rental supply.

“The less supply of something there is, the more expensive it costs. That’s just basic economics,” Mitchell said.

Onstage, Lake and Mitchell bemoaned crime committed by undocumented migrants in Scottsdale, one of the Phoenix area’s wealthier cities . Police have told local media that burglaries in Scottsdale have fallen overall in recent years, though this year saw a highly publicized pattern of thefts that police say were committed by South American immigrants.

“The only way, frankly, to save our homeland is to send these people back to their homeland,” Lake said.

Mitchell, Lake’s interlocutor, leads a firm that promotes itself online as a luxury real estate company selling homes to clients like the retired former Phoenix Suns player Eddie Johnson. In an interview, Mitchell said the firm’s average purchase price is around $470,000, not much higher than the statewide median .

Mitchell has argued that simply building more housing won’t solve the problem. Instead he has advocated using taxes to dissuade wealthy investors from buying up large numbers of homes, which politicians on both the left and right have said takes units out of the housing supply and drives up prices for ordinary people.

Lake suggested her support for that view on Tuesday.

“I want to find ways to make sure that people, first-time homeowners, and families can get into homes, and not be outbid or even underbid by hedge funds and such,” she said.

Later, Mitchell asked Lake to explain her “shift on abortion.” While running for governor during the last election cycle, Lake called the near-total ban on abortion, enacted while Arizona was still a territory, a "great law" . After the Arizona Supreme Court upheld that law in a decision last week, Lake said the 1864 law she once praised was "out of step with Arizonans."

Lake responded that she has “never shifted” in her opposition to a federal abortion ban and downplayed the impact of the 1864 law. She said people wanting an abortion could seek one in another state and referenced Democratic Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes’ announcement that she will not prosecute any abortion bans.

“Everyone’s fighting about a law that’s not even going to be enforced here in Arizona,” Lake said.

“Even if we have a restrictive law here,” Lake continued, “you can go three hours that way, three hours that way, and you're going to be able to have an abortion.”

Mayes’ decision could be challenged by one of the state's county attorneys.

A memo circulated Monday by a GOP legislative staffer revealed that Arizona Republicans are considering putting forward competing proposals to weaken support for a widely anticipated ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights into Arizona’s Constitution.

“I think our lawmakers need to do something quickly, and that's putting another initiative on the ballot to give people options,” Lake said on Tuesday.

Political observers believe the issue of abortion could be a major liability for Lake and other Arizona Republicans’ campaigns this election year. On top of sweeping consequences for prenatal health care in Arizona, the abortion restrictions are likely to boost Democratic turnout in statewide elections like Lake’s that are widely expected to be razor-thin.

Lake’s likely Democratic opponent in the November general election is Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz. She faces a GOP primary challenger in Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

In recent remarks, Gallego has taken direct aim at Lake over her past support for the 1864 law.

"She wanted this to happen," Gallego said of Lake. "They all did. Do not let them lie to you."
