JOOLA Inside 25 Review — Best Table Under $650

As the best-selling table tennis table on Amazon, it should come as no surprise that the JOOLA Inside 25 is pretty incredible.

It has all the features you need for a high-level table, and at an unbeatable price . In this JOOLA Inside 25 review, I’ll take a deep dive into what separates this model from the rest of the competition.

Super 25mm Thick Playing Surface

Without a doubt, one of the strongest qualities going for the JOOLA Inside 25 is its 25mm thick playing surface . To put it into perspective, this is the same thickness as professionals use for their tables, so it’s really top-of-the-line!

There are only a select few tables around that are thicker at 30mm, but you likely won’t notice much of a difference between the two. On the other hand, 25mm thick tables are noticeably superior to the other common table thicknesses of 18mm and 15mm.

Put it this way, whenever I play at my local club, we are all fighting to use the 25mm thick tables. They are just so much more enjoyable to play on when you become skilled at the game.

Robust Frame

Given this JOOLA indoor ping pong table has a thick 25mm surface, the frame has to be thick enough to provide adequate support, which it is. Unfortunately, though, there does seem to be some conflicting information relating to certain aspects of the table.

To begin with, the apron size differs depending on where you look. On Amazon, it is clearly listed as 2”. However, on JOOLA’s official USA website it’s instead cited as 1.5” . While this is not a massive difference, it’s just a bit of a sloppy error.

It’s a similar story with the legs. Amazon states they are 2” whereas JOOLA’s website once again says they are 1.5”.

I also noticed the weight differs a bit as well. Amazon cites the Inside 25 as weighing 239lbs. However, JOOLA’s website instead claims 284lbs. That’s a pretty big difference for an already very heavy table.

My guess is that the heavier and thinner specs referenced by JOOLA’s website are for an older version of the table. However, I have no way of confirming this — it’s just a hunch. Fortunately, these discrepancies are not too big of an issue as even with a 1.5” apron and 1.5” legs the frame is plenty strong.

Compact Design With 4” Wheels

As a 2-piece model, the JOOLA Inside ping pong table is highly compact and straightforward to maneuver with its 4” wheels . You have two options when wheeling the table around. You can either separate the two table halves and wheel them around independently. This method gives you a lighter load.

Or my preferred option is to erect both halves of the table and slot them into one another. They nest together very compactly, and this means you can easily move both at the same time which means the table is quicker to put away.

Thanks to the nested design, the JOOLA Inside 25 measures just 62” x 22” x 67” when stored . Very few other tables will be able to beat this. You’ll likely have to go for an ultra-compact model like the Butterfly Compact 19 if you want something more condensed.

Another benefit of the design of the JOOLA Inside is the solo playback mode . This allows you to open up just one side of the table while leaving the other half locked upright. By placing the upright half next to the opposing side which is open, you can play by yourself when you don’t have anyone to practice with.

This is a neat little feature that is great for beginners. However, I should note that if you’re half decent you probably won’t use this feature at all as it doesn’t help you to improve all that much. You’re better off getting a table tennis robot if you find yourself often lacking a training buddy.

Quick Assembly

Like many home table tennis tables, the JOOLA Inside has a very short setup time. We are talking around 10-20 minutes . As such, you don’t have to faff around with building the table for hours like you would have to for some of the premium options.

The only step to building the table once it arrives is attaching the legs and you’re good to go. In total, you’ve got 8 bolts to attach — I’m sure you can handle that. Here’s the manual if you’re curious.

Once the table is all built it’s simply a matter of attaching the included net. Before I forget, that’s another quality of this table that’s great. The net isn’t some crappy model that they’ve included to increase profit margins. It’s a JOOLA-made net with height and tension adjustment — the kind used for competitive play.

Opening and closing the table is safe as the Inside 25mm uses JOOLA’s dual-lock system . Previously, I believe the Inside 25 used a single lock as the other Inside models do.

Both of these locks are located on the underside of the middle sections of the table. I would have preferred that JOOLA use one lock and one lever like many other tables provide (this allows you to tilt the table open slightly after opening the first lock to prevent the lock from closing again). However, it is not much of an issue.

You might just find it a little awkward to open both locks while holding the top of the table to prevent it from falling. You kind of need three arms to simultaneously open both locks while holding the top of the table. It is for this reason, I’d recommend getting your training partner to help with opening the table.

Unbeatable Price Tag

Finally, we come to price, and that’s where the JOOLA Inside 25 simply won’t be beaten. It’s a value monster.

The Inside 25 doesn’t have any extra gimmicks like fancy bat and ball holders or sophisticated one-handed opening technology. Rather, it focuses on the essentials and gets them right, allowing the table to be sold at a very low price.

As it stands, the JOOLA Inside 25 is the reliably cheapest 25mm table on the market .

The only other table that comes close, funnily enough, is another table by JOOLA — the Rally TL 700. In fact, as it stands, the Rally TL 700 is a little cheaper. However, this is only down to a temporary sale.

The prices of these two tables tend to fluctuate quite a bit, the Rally TL 700 especially. But looking at the average price, the Inside 25mm is usually around $80 cheaper. But by all means, if you’re ready to buy, I recommend checking. Both tables are near-identical so I would purchase whichever is cheapest and pocket the difference.

A Look at the Other JOOLA Inside Tables

If you’ve done any research for the JOOLA Inside you likely already know that it comes in several different versions: you can pick it up with either a 13mm, 15mm, 18mm, or 25mm surface. The important thing to note is that the design of the table is the same for all versions, it’s just each successive model has upgrades such as a thicker play surface and undercarriage.

The question is… which is the right one for you?

Here is how I would answer that question.

If you’re a pauper and dying to play table tennis, go for the JOOLA Inside 13 .

If you’re a very casual player with little skill or buying for your family, the JOOLA Inside 15 is a good choice.

If you’re a fairly keen player looking for the minimum recommended table the JOOLA Inside 18 is the one you want.

If you have a larger budget and want the best table tennis experience, the JOOLA Inside 25 is the table you should purchase.

For clarity’s sake, I’ve produced a table below highlighting some of the main differences between the JOOLA Inside range. Hopefully, it helps you out.

Closing Thoughts

The JOOLA Inside 25 is an incredible table at an incredible price . While it’s always nice to play on higher-end models with more physical appeal, I for one, just can’t get past how damn expensive they are, and I’m sure you can’t too, hence how you ended up here.

Whether you’re an advanced player looking for a quality table, or even someone who is just getting started on their journey and want’s a future-proof model, the JOOLA Inside 25mm is a table that will not disappoint .

Similarly, if you’re really tight on funds, the likes of the JOOLA Inside 15mm table tennis table is a good choice. And if you’re an advanced player who wants the cheapest model possible, the JOOLA Inside 18 is a solid option.

Construction

The Joola Tour 2500 ping pong tables are built to last and that is apparent from their heavyweight. At 250 lbs, the table has a 1-inch thick playing surface, supported by a 2×2-inches steel frame and an undercarriage which is also 2×2-inches.

The thickness of the frame keeps the steady so that it won’t budge even during an offensive game. The heavy weight helps protect the table from damage and increases its lifespan.

The 1-inch MDF ( medium-density fiberboard ) top is premium quality table thickness and promises excellent performance. Since this regulation size ping pong table comes into two separate stand alone halves, it supports playback mode. Simply fold up one table half and  play against it to practice . The wheels and auto-folding table legs with double anti tilting device for added safety and make the process of switching into playback mode (and back to normal) very convenient. Even if it is one half only, the surface provides consistent bounce and quality gameplay.

Preassembled

JOOLA Tour 2500 is very heavy and the process of assembly can be difficult. JOOLA surely made things easy by making this table 95% preassembled.

Just attach the legs to the frame by sliding them in and tightening some bolts and you are ready to play. The whole process takes less than fifteen minutes and you don’t require any special tools or professionals’ help.

Additional Features

Various other features make this table worth the money and hype. The legs have adjustable height levelers due to which the height of the table can be accommodated for extra stability.

Joola Tour 2500 table tennis table also comes with a USATT approved clamp-on competition net set which is adjustable on the table top in terms of height and tension. Caster wheels can lock the table into both playing and storage positions to help avoid accidents and increase playability.

Heavy Weight

The biggest, and maybe the only, downfall of JOOLA Tour 2500 is its weight. It doesn’t just cause problems with assembly, movement, and storage, but also with shipping. With that being said, paying extra for assembly service is not recommended.

Although it comes 95% preassembled, it is very difficult to put the two separate table halves together due to the weight, and you will need two adults’ help.

As it is a very heavy table tennis table and can get scratches or breakage during shipping. No matter how properly package dimensions of the table are taken care of, if it is thrown around carelessly it can get serious damage. JOOLA offers excellent customer care service so this can be fixed.

Low Portability

The weight causes another problem: low portability. Although each half can be maneuvered alone, it is still very difficult to assemble, disassemble, and move.

JOOLA has made dual safety locking devices to hold all parts in place when you move the table, but you still need at least 2 people to move each half.

It will not wrong to call JOOLA Tour 2500 a latest table version as it is a marvel of great engineering and the latest technology. The table has an excellent quality, superb playability, optimal table top and a very durable frame–and that too on a budget, makes it a great choice.

Although it does not match high-grade official ping pong tables, it does share similarities with them as the table surface is 1-inch thick and USATT approved. The dual undercarriage system makes the table super easy to maneuver across most surfaces.

If you are looking for a ping pong table that provides an authentic professional feel without poking a hole in your pocket, then this one is the  best table tennis table  for you.

Table tennis tables typically have a tabletop thickness ranging from 1/2” at the lower end, all up to an inch thick, which is required to play an official event. The more thick tabletop, the higher bounce the ball can have and, consequently, better play.

The JOOLA Tour 2500 table is constructed from 1 one-inch (25mm) dense medium density fiberboard (MDF). It is highly durable (although not designed to be used outdoors) and is coated with blue paint by multiple layers to ensure it even bounces across the table. It also helps protect chips and warping, allowing the table to last longer and give you more value for your money.

50mm steel frame, sturdy, folding undercarriage

The strong frame is 50mm (almost 2-inches) powder coated frame gives excellent support that keeps the table strong from constant knocks, bases, and dents it is likely to encounter. The corners are protected with a protective layer to keep them from getting hit and chipping.

The undercarriage is constructed with 50mm thick stainless steel coated with black, providing the table with a sturdy feeling. It’s possible to fold down the table’s two halves effortlessly, and the legs will automatically fold to make it easier. It will not take more than 15 minutes; however, we recommend having two persons assist with the installation as Tabletops are a bit heavy. We would not recommend you spend more on assembly.

Transportable

As you know, we can fold or unfold the table quickly and then move the table to any location you like. The table comes with a lock on the caster that locks it into place.

After playing, you can fold the table in half, unlock the caster, and move it to store easily. One person can handle each of these tasks.

Overview of the JOOLA Tour 2500

25mm (1″) Thick Table Top

Table tennis tables tend to have a surface thickness that ranges from 1/2″ on the lower end, all the way up to 1″ thick which is the thickness required for official tournaments. The thicker the tabletop, the better the ball will bounce, thus more exciting gameplay.

The JOOLA Tour 2500 ping pong table is made out of a 1″ (25mm) thick medium density fiberboard (MDF). It’s durable (although not for outside use), and is finished with blue paint using multi-layers to ensure that you get a consistent bounce over the entire table. It also prevents chipping and warping, helping the table to last longer, which means you get more value out of it.

Strong Foldable Undercarriage

The robust 50mm (almost 2″) powder-coated frame provides great support to keep the table sturdy from the inevitable knocks that it will get. The corners also have protectors to prevent chipping and minimize injury should you bump into them.

To support the playing surface, JOOLA installed 2″ steel tube aprons. This provides a lot of protection and ensures that the table top will not warp over time. You can fold up each half of the table very easily, and the legs automatically deploy for added convenience. The only installation necessary is the caster “T” bracketed legs which required a few bolts to screw together. It shouldn’t take much longer than 15 minutes, although we’d recommend having two people for setup as the table tops are very heavy. We also wouldn’t recommend that you pay extra for assembly service.

The Joola Tour 2500 is a USA Table Tennis Approved recreational ping pong table. It offers a lot of the quality and many of the features of Joola’s professional tables at a price that is more suitable for homes and table tennis clubs. This two-piece regulation size table has a 1-inch thick top made of medium density fiberboard (MDF) for an excellent bounce and great playability. The heavy-duty powder-coated metal frame and undercarriage make it a stable playing surface and some nice convenience features. The Joola Tour 2500 is a solid table that really bridges the gap between recreational and professional-grade ping pong tables.

Table Construction

The heavy-duty construction of the Joola Tour 2500 is immediately apparent as the table weighs in at 235 pounds. While it isn’t as heavy as other more expensive indoor tables, the Tour 2500 has the weight where it counts. The frame is built with a 2-inch by 2-inch square steel construction along with a 2-inch by 2-inch undercarriage that holds the top securely in place. The substantial frame helps to keep the table level and protects against wear and tear to give the table a much longer lifespan.

The Joola Tour 2500 certainly has a premium quality top. It’s a 1-inch thick sheet of MDF that goes through an elaborate polyurethane paint process that consists of many layers and coats. Ths makes the playing surface resistant to chipping, scratching and warping as well as allowing for great playability. The surface has a very consistent bounce, no noticeable dead spots and takes spin very well.

A great thing about the Tour 2500 is the fact that it’s essentially two separate table halves that come together to form the full table. Each standalone half has its own built-in trundle system that allows it to be transported and stored separately. This dual undercarriage system makes the table very easy to maneuver and due to the 3-inch lockable casters, the table rolls smoothly and easily across most surfaces.

When in folded position you can nest the two table halves easily allowing the table to be stored in relatively small spaces. The optimal storage dimensions of the Joola Tour 2500 is 24 1/2 inches x 62 1/4 inches x 64 inches.

The table also comes with a matching competition-grade net set that comes with an adjustable post that can be used to help level the table surface.

Convenience Features

In addition to a solid, strong frame and a great table top, the Tour 2500 also offers some nice convenience features. The outer four legs of the table have adjustable height levelers that easily allow you to level the table to any surface. This is a great feature that ensures you have a the best playing experience possible. The frame also features auto-folding legs so that facilitate easy folding and unfolding of the table. All you need to is disengage the safety locks on each side to the unfolded table and then push the table top up. The legs will automatically swing into position.

Other safety features include an anti-tilting device that locks the folded table half in place to avoid any unintended accidents while the table is in storage position or in the process of being moved. This is an especially important feature with a table like the Joola Tour 2500 as the heavy 1-inch top could prove deadly if it landed on someone unexpectedly. The four casters for each table half also lock which provides an added protection during storage as well as extra stability during play.

Lastly, the Tour 2500 supports playback mode, allowing you to fold up a single side and play against it to warm up or to practice by yourself. The previously mentioned auto-folding legs make it really easy to switch back and forth between playback and normal play modes.

Assembly Process

The Tour 2500 ships to you nearly preassembled in two separate table halves. The actual assembly process only really involves attaching the caster legs (shaped like T brackets) to the rest of the frame. This just requires sliding them in and tightening a few bolts. The hardest part is just lifting the two separate table halves together and actually moving the table to its desired location. It is very heavy and unruly so we recommend you have at least two adults to help put it into place.

Potential Downsides

The biggest reported problems with the Joola Tour 2500 have to do with damage during shipping. Because it is such a heavy table, it’s easy for the surface to get scratched and for the own weight of the table to cause components to bend and break when sliding around in the back of a truck. Joola could probably do a better job packaging the table for shipment and eliminate many of these issues. These problems are somewhat common with heavy tables like and no matter how well-packaged they are, a careless delivery worker can easily cause damage to your table. Our best advice is to carefully inspect the table when it is shipped to you and if there is damage, refuse to sign for the item.

The Joola Tour 2500 is the product of great engineering and high-quality materials. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of higher-priced indoor tables, it delivers on a giving you a great playing experience at a reasonable price.

There’s no doubt that Joola are one of the best brands for table tennis tables. The company’s tables are built to a high standard, have great bounce and provide excellent value for money. They also build a wide range of models, from mini tables for children up to tournament-standard playing surfaces.

The only downside is that it can be difficult to know which to choose. To help you make the right choice for your requirements, I’ve put together a list of my five favorite Joola tables below.

Each of these models provides excellent value, but the right option for you depends on your experience level, requirements and budget . If you’re looking for tournament-standard bounce without spending a fortune, the Joola Tour 2500 is probably the best option on the market. It’s an outstanding table with a 25mm playing surface and highly consistent bounce – yet is available for considerably less than similar models.

When it comes to bounce consistency and height, the key factor is surface thickness. The  minimum I recommend for an indoor table is 15mm, but for serious practice you need 19mm or above. For mimicking tournament play, a 25mm table is usually required.

That’s why the Tour 2500’s 25mm playing surface is such an important feature. It provides superior bounce to models with thinner surfaces, so it’s great for serious games or tournament practice. It’s also the main reason the Tour 2500 is USATT approved.

Aside from the playing surface, the 2500 is a folding table that’s split into two halves. This makes it easier to store or use in playback mode. The legs and undercarriage are heavy-duty and built to last, while the surface itself is highly durable. A bonus is the competition-ready net set, which is much higher quality than the nets usually included with tables.

One of the reasons the Tour 2500 is cheaper than other 25mm models is because it’s not built with competition-grade matte, like more expensive alternatives such as the Joola Atlanta. It can still provide tournament-quality bounce though – and for a much lower price.

Beware: The thick surface means it’s a relatively heavy table. This is a small price to pay for such an excellent playing surface though.

Note: If the 2500 is too expensive, Joola also produce the similar Tour 1500 and Tour 1800 models with 15mm and 18mm playing surfaces respectively. While these models can’t match the pro bounce of the 2500, they are excellent tables for entry-level play – plus they are lighter and easy to move around the house.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive outdoor table that can still provide a decent playing surface, the Joola Outdoor is a great choice. It’s currently #2 on our list of outdoor ping pong tables – and it’s a lot of fun to play on.

As you would expect, the Outdoor is built to withstand outside weather conditions. The undercarriage is powder-coated, so it can survive harsh winter months, while each leg has a leveler for uneven ground. It also has an aluminum / plastic composite playing surface which is highly durable.

Speaking of the playing surface, the 6mm thickness means it can’t match the bounce quality of indoor tables. This is the case for almost all outdoor models though (the Kettler Outdoor 10 being a notable exception).

With that said, the Joola still provides decent bounce. If you want a table that’s enjoyable to play on, while being durable enough to be used outside, it’s an excellent option.

Additionally, it’s relatively easy to put together, so you shouldn’t need to spend hours fiddling with screws or trying to decipher the instruction manual. Once built, the heavy-duty caster wheels make it easy to move the two separate halves around the garden. I recommend buying a high-quality cover to protect it from rain and wind when stored though.

Conversion tops can be a useful alternative if you’re tight on space or money. Most can’t match the bounce of a “proper” table, but they are cheaper, lighter and good enough for beginners or even keen amateurs.

One of the best tabletop converters is the Joola Conversion Top, due to its surprisingly consistent bounce and table-saving padding. It’s designed for a billiard table, but can be used on a variety of tables up to 8′ long (such as pool, foosball and even dining tables).

As you would expect from a Joola table, this model is built to a high standard. It has a 15mm MDF playing surface, which is thicker than many conversion tops and provides decent bounce for the price. The surface is split into two halves, which makes it easy to store, while the MDF should prevent it warping.

One of my favorite features of the Joola is the padding. Unlike many conversion tops, which have small areas of padding on each corner, the underside of this model is entirely covered in protective foam. This is great for ensuring the table underneath doesn’t get scratched during a game.

The main drawback is the weight. It’s relatively heavy, mainly due to its thick playing surface, so it’s not the most mobile. The upside is that this heavy and thick design provides a fast paced game.

Summary : The Joola Conversion Top has a solid 15mm playing surface and surprisingly decent bounce. It’s not suitable for serious games (like most tabletop converters), but for practicing or recreational play it provides great value for money.

A step up from the Joola Outdoor is the Nova DX. It’s an all-weather table that’s USATT approved, plus it comes with a tournament-standard net and a highly durable undercarriage.

Like the Outdoor, the Nova DX has a 6mm playing surface made from a combination of aluminum and plastic. This resists warping, so it should last a long time, while providing a relatively fast game and decent bounce.

It also has a weatherproof undercarriage made from rust-resistant metal. As with most Joola tables, it’s split into two parts for easy storage and sits on 3″ wheels.

A bonus is that the Nova DX comes 95% pre-assembled. Joola estimates assembly should take around 15 minutes, which might be optimistic, but it shouldn’t take long. I recommend getting a friend to help with assembly though, as it’s difficult on your own.

Despite being an excellent table, I don’t see much reason to buy the Nova DX over the standard Outdoor. Both are great for playing ping pong outdoors, but the Nova DX doesn’t provide enough extra to justify the significantly higher price. With that said, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either model.

Summary : The Nova DX is a great table for outdoor ping pong. The folding two-part design, easy assembly and heavy-duty wheels make it a convenient model to use, while the 6mm playing surface provides decent bounce. If you’re on a tight budget, go for the standard Outdoor though.

5. Joola Inside 15

If you just want a table tennis table for family games or playing with friends, you don’t need to spend thousands on a high-end table. With that said, you also shouldn’t buy the cheapest 12mm tables, as they have horrible bounce and won’t last long.

A good compromise is the Joola Inside 15. It’s a relatively cheap table, yet has a 15mm playing surface and a durable design. It’s also made from folding halves, so it’s easy to store or move around the home.

The playing surface is made from MDF, which provides decent bounce that’s relatively consistent. It can’t match the Tour 1800 or 2500, but for family games it’s certainly good enough. If you want a table for serious practice, however, go for a table with at least 18-19mm playing surface.

Like most Joola tables, it comes mostly assembled, so you just need to attach the legs with bolts and setup the net. The undercarriage is made from 1.5″ steel legs, which is thinner than more expensive models but sturdy enough for home use.  There are also leg levelers for uneven surfaces.

Summary : The Joola Inside 15 can’t match the company’s best models – but it’s not designed to. Instead, it’s built to provide a decent playing surface for a great price. If you’re looking for a table for recreational play, it’s an excellent choice.

What About the Joola Midsize?

The Joola Midsize is a compact table that’s designed for people that don’t have enough space for a full size model. It’s relatively cheap, as you would expect, and has dimensions of 6’x3′ instead of 9’x6′ for a regulation table.

To be completely honest, I’m not a fan of mini or small tables. They get players into bad habits, even if the surface provides reliable bounce. I usually recommend looking for an outdoor table instead – although this isn’t always possible if you live in an apartment. Tabletop converters can also be a good alternative if storage is the problem.

With that said, if you have no other option then a compact table can still be fun to play on – and the Joola Midsize is one of the best on the market. It’s 100% pre-assembled, regulation height and comes with a Joola net. It’s also inexpensive compared to full size models, although you’ll need to buy a racket/paddles and balls as they aren’t included.

What About “X” Model?

The five reviews on this page are all excellent models, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with any of them. They aren’t the only high-quality tables produced by Joola though. Here’s a quick overview of some of the others that didn’t quite make this list:

• Joola Victory. The Victory is a two-piece rollaway table that’s designed for family games. It’s regulation size and great for fun games, but I don’t recommend it for serious practice.
• Joola Rally TL 300 . The Rally TL is a 15mm table with some useful extras, such as ball holders and an abacus scorer. It’s more expensive than entry-level models, but has decent bounce for recreational players.
• Joola Signature . The Signature is a folding table with an excellent 25mm playing surface. It’s a fast paced table that provides great value – although it’s not always easy to find.
• Joola 3000 SC . If you’re looking for a professional table tennis table, the 3000 SC could be a good choice. It has an Olympic-standard 22mm playing surface, 50mm metal frame and adjustable levelers, along with an excellent net. It’s expensive though, which is why I recommend the Tour 2500.
• Joola World Cup DX30 Championship Series . With an astonishing 32mm table top, the DX30 is probably the thickest model on the market. This provides excellent bounce consistency, although I don’t think it’s much better than the Tour 2500.
• Joola Triumph 15 . The Triumph 15 is similar to the Inside 15, as it has a 15mm MDF surface that’s great for recreational players.
